Interesting question. Some denominations, for example Pentecostal, do not prize formal education. Reverend Al Sharpton has been calling himself a reverend since grammar school and preached his first sermon at the age of six. Other denominations, such as Presbyterian Church of America, highly prize formal education and pastors are required extensive examination on theology and philosophy before being accepted into the ministry.

Our Pastor has a Masters in Theology and 2 of his assistants have PhD's, one in Theology and the other in Psychology & Theology. They all deliver exceptional sermons and integrate very well academic knowledge with the spiritual aspect of the human psyche. I don't know of any "Pastor-in-training" that does not have both the intelligence and social skills to lead a congregation. Additionally, Pastors have the assistance and annointing of the Holy Spirit to minister to many emotionally broken spirits. To heal someone else's mind, spirit, and soul is probably more important than having the capacity for intellectual knowledge. This has proven well when leading people to Christ. As you probably know well, in the corporate world, it is not IQ that will enable one to climb the ladder, it is EQ and soft skills that will naturally lift someone in leadership positions. Social skills and charisma are more important. The same is definetely true in ministry.

Since I don't go to Church I could care less about the academic achievements of a pastor. As long as he is true to his word I think that is good enough. (you know, no funny stuff in the bathroom. lol)

I did poorly in school, but it has nothing to do with my ability or intelligence. I am just lazy.

It would depend on which school it was. If it was elemetary school that isn't such a problem but if it was the school to become a pastor that is an entirely different subject.

I wonder how much 'schooling' the disciples/apostles had?
They were ordinary men, until they called upon Jesus.
One does not need a degree to have the gift of teaching/preaching.

I do not think it matters. What matters is how he treats others, what he is making choices about, and his own personal relationship with his deity.
