while you're getting it done or on your way, just take a lot of deep breaths, relax, dont worry about the pain, it wont last long, and jsut keep in mind that you are getting something that you really want and will love, and it will all be worth it in the end. take the pain with the pleasure :o)

just curious... is there a reason that you are getting a tribal tattoo? do you have some tribal ancestry? it just seems a little ugh to get a tribal tattoo just because. and just so you know tribal tattoos are the second most sought after tattoos to have removed or covered up with secondary tattoos, followed only by names.

anyway... tips. eat a meal before you go and try to stay calm. bring someone to keep you occupied or a book to keep your interest. try to relax.
good luck.

Since it can do weird things to your blood sugar, I always take a couple pieces of candy. If you get really light headed during the tattoo a piece of candy will fix it for you. Don't drink to try to ease the pain. It will only make you bleed more, creating more work for the artist and making your tattoo take longer.

Don't go in on an empty stomach or you may get light-headed. All tattoos hurt, some spots hurt worse than others. Spots where there is little muscle or fat and are close to the bone hurt more.

I just got my first one down my ribs a couple hours ago.
I brought my friend with me and all I did was squeeze the **** out of her hand.
It hurt aloooot for me but Im guessing becuase it was on my ribs, and I dont know what any where else feels like!
Im sure you'll be fine, just go for it, its all worth it in the end!!
Good luck!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Anyone that says tattoos don't hurt is a liar. I have four and they all hurt, but it's like child birth, you tend to forget the pain, til you have another!

I would definitely eat something, and take 2-3 over the counter pain reliever, should do the trick.

First, you should make sure that you've thought about it enough, and that it's really something you want. Despite the laser removals and such, treat your tat as if it's truly something that's going to be with you forever.

Second, choose who you want to go with you. You'll always remember who went with you for your first tat.

taking a ton of deep breathes during the process & relaxing, this helps you to get used to the wierd feeling/pain.

Make sure you eat first. All of my tattoo artists have always told me to eat before I come in. Something about the blood sugar levels I dunno. Just practice some relaxation exercises so when the pain comes you won't concentrate on it. Congrats on your new tat!!
