Nascar is an American sport. Cars that were made here in the good ol USA. It is an American tradition. And it is sad to say that other countries are coming in here trying to change the way of the American tradition. Toyota is just one trying to get into Nascar. Next you'll have Mitsubishi, Saab, Honda .....The list goes on. Then what will happen to Chevy, Ford and Dodge. I am not knocking that Toyota's are bad vehicles. They just don't need to be in Nascar. I am a Tony Stewart fan and a big Chevy fan. Next year I don't know if I can root for Tony in is TOY. There will be a lot of changes. Hopefully, none like Michael Waltrip is having to go through. And poor Dale Jarrett used to qualify in every race. Now he only gets to run in a few of them. LEAVE NASCAR AS IT IS!

Fords and Chevy's are made in Mexico and Canada, Toyota is made in the USA. Who would have thought? Then there is Dodge also. Maybe we'll se a Saturn or a Honda in the next couple years. The only difference in the cars is the stickers on it that say Ford or Chevy or Toyota, or Dodge. All the cars are scratch built in the race shops. I believe the only "stock" thing about them is the wheel base measurements. The automakers pay big bucks to NASCAR teams to have their stickers on the cars. Competition is good.

dont forget that at the time that nascar was formed, there were few foreign manufacturers that built cars large enough to be certified by nascar to run in the series. it wasnt until the late 80's that toyota, nissan and honda made cars that were large enough to compete. also dont forget that foreign manufacturers have not shown any interest in racing in nascar, until toyota came along in the truck series. toyota realized that if they wanted to compete for pick up truck buyers at the same level as ford, gm and dodge, they had to compete in the craftsman truck series. nascar never limited the series to only chevy and ford. they allowed anyone who wanted to race, race as long as the production cars met the specifications regarding wheelbase, width, etc. all the manufacturers that dropped out of racing in the series did so to reduce costs. personally i feel that every auto maker that sells cars in the US,should compete in nascar as it would create a high level of competition, and would be good for the sport, and good for the american auto makers.

What did you do,just become a nascar fan?Nascar should only race AMERICAN AUTOMAKERS.Ford,Mercury,Chevy,Pontiac,Buick and Dodge.Nascar was supposed to be "The Great American Sport".Oh yeah,we all have to be politically correct now a days.
If you didn't notice, nascar had to start having oval track funny cars to help out the Toyota company.(COT)

I would have preferred to see NASCAR stick with American manufacturers only, but when you consider that many of the foreign car makers have factories in the US, it's starting to make sense that they get a shot, too. I don't think Toyota has proved themselves at Cup level yet, but they sure are dominating the Truck series. I just wonder how the Gibbs and HOF teams will do next year once they make the switch to Toyota.

Hmmm...
While NASCAR ultimately chooses which makes run, NASCAR doesn't "allow" or "restrict" certain makes from running.
You have to remember it take's millions to develop a car and the templates etc. This takes a huge commitment from the manufacturer as well as NASCAR. There aren't any guidelines that say team X has to drive make Y.
I really don't understand anyone's issue with other makes running.
Personally I'd like to see a change that allows ANY make/model to run provided the body matches PRODUCTION car templates. When it comes right down to it, that's what NASCAR was founded on..."run what ya brung."
Restricting the competitors to American made makes only does not help NASCAR or any of us.

What everybody else said. The cornerstones of the greatest country on God's green earth is competition and the free enterprise system.
Admittedly- there does seem to be times when NASCAR rules like a not-so-benevolent dictatorship.

What importance would there be fore the Manufacturer's award if there was just two companies? If there were just two, why not just have one model and have Nascar provide the bodies, the engines, the shocks. Want another IROC series? The last one is gone because no one wanted to fund it.

No. Toyotas have 5 more hp. Why not put a little competition in it to mix it up ? They are improving little by little and will be in contention for the win next season considering the fact that Joe Gibbs Racing has chosen to go with them. I would be willing to bet that his team will make vast improvements in their set-ups and show what Toyota can do - for real.
