religion and spiritualty must include discussions of the character and existence of the prophets and of God.

When we believe and really understand our faith we do not feel threatened by those of other faiths or those who do not believe in God. All opinions about religion or lack thereof are valid.

Not all athiest are lovers of science just as not all religious folk or Christians deny sciennce and evolution. I believe God created the world much the way science theorizes and that each "day" is a long, long period illustrating that creation event and the evolution of it. After all the sun was not created until the 3rd day, so how were those first 2 measured?

God does not mind us questionig Him. Abraham and Moses both questioned and argued and even persuaded God.

Athiest have a right to express their views here too.

I'm not an atheist, but if atheists keep their QA civil there's no reason they shouldn't post here.

It's the hectoring, ridicule, sneering, abuse and badgering that violates the guidelines.

If the Mayan calendar hypothesis is flawed, or questionable, nothing's wrong with it being pointed out in a polite manner. Same as any other subject you've mentioned.

However,

"How can anyone understand a site of posters that add nothing but

Nothing but fairytales, Sky fairies, Spaghetti Monsters"

Seems inappropriate and likely to change for the better with the new reporting system.

OK first of all atheism isn't the denial of anything its the non-belief just because you believe in it doesn't make it so. and you should word your questions more carefully if you understand what atheist are. i do not criticize your beliefs i don't understand why you must feel the need to criticize that i don't. when someone doesn't believe in the Easter bunny or the tooth fairy are they in denial as well? theirs a story behind them as well? so is everyone denying their existence as well? now i have read some of the answers the other atheists write down which a lot of it does sound like that only because they are mad from criticism and other things but when i say that it sounds like a fairytale that is because it is showing you that i relate them because i do not believe either to be true and it give you some kind of understanding yiou may be insane or retarded i do not say you are or you aren't because i simply don't know you. but most them type these kinds of things out of anger because they are told constantly they are stupid or ignorant becuase they don't believe. and even you find yourself putting harsh words along with your questions and what not so that you can get your point across although if you wish to get angry or have a problem with others beliefs thats your problem not mine. but i did happen to get aggravated on an occasion this one dude created a religion well a supposed religion and asked why it didn't work i said because they weren't a religion they were band of idiots which that was my opion and that was why i didn't think it worked and if you would of read about it even you would of probably thought the same thing. and i am not on that site that you spoke about unless your talking about this one. so i don't know either i think a lot of atheists feel the need to argue their beliefs although i don't see why. i mean if you believe or not why argue and try to make them change because only they will change only if they want to. although i like talking about it because i like to see how the perspectives can very from person to person. and how they see things i find it quite fascinating also i like to hear what they have to say about things thats the only reason i even speak about it because it is an interesting topic that no one has the answer to and points can be argued forever but i really find it interesting how quick people get defencive or feel that their faith is being tested or something. i just like hearing peoples opions although i don't believe and some people think i secretly do or something because i talk about it but really i just like to hear what people have to say and what they think when their mind is in more of an open territory if that makes any sense.

Unfortunately, the people you refer to in your question lack the mental capacity to formulate a proper answer to those questions regarding religion, etc. As an Atheist, I feel my opinion should be heard when it comes to certain questions. The same can be said about all religions, Judaism vs. Catholicism, etc. Rather than preach and automatically assume everyone else is wrong, I think its better to understand where the other person is coming from. No one can say which religion, if any, is the right one, or if we don't need religion at all.

Everything needs balance. We atheists and agnostics and pagans, etc., provide the counter-balance to an otherwise one-sided conversation. If you don't like that atheists post here, perhaps you should go to a Christian-only forum?

Besides, if you cannot see the value in the Flying Spaghetti Monster, then you are truly lost and I have nothing more to say to you!

This is a open and free website where all kinds of people are allowed and encouraged to ask and answer questions. If you don't like the answers that you are getting then you should go to a specifically religious site where it is understood that everybody agrees with the same basic philosophy.

Hey, if it wasn't for all the non-believers, where would we Christians get all our abuse and persecution that Jesus predicted (which we are actually blessed for!)

Matthew 5:10-11 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me.

Plus they're insults and mockings actually prove Jesus' prophecies to be true. Ironic, huh. (Plus it seems they don't get enough fluids in their day; they must get dehydrated because they need to check with us on when to drink more liquids. So we're also doing a good public service at the same time.)

I suspect the Bible god is a fake, but I don't know if that qualifies me as an atheist.

I'm here to find out if I really am an atheist, or maybe I'm just a no-good bum. But if I find out I really am an atheist, are you saying I shouldn't be here any more?

You really must make allowances for them.
They are more to be pitied than laughed at.
It always bugs me, that people with no scientific training,
announce that religion and science are not compatible.
If that is a real situation, why do so many scientists and medical staff, subscribe
to the existence of God????
P.S. At age eighteen, I thought I was an atheist, but at age 22
I had grown up!!!!!

Atheists have faith and belief that there is not a God. They must not believe in Heaven or Hell. That takes a lot of faith. And they must think they are omnipotent to know that there is no God. Perhaps in coming to this site just to be hateful and bothersome, they'll actually become believers :)
