i have to say, i most definatly feel your pain.
when i had strep throat i had it for about 3 months and it was the worst 3 months of my life.
BUT what I did was inhale vics three times a day,
and i used to suck on ice cubes. i would reccomend plain old tylonol for the fever and pain if you cant the antibiotics right away.
i used to drink lots and lots of hot chicken broth and lemon tea, and i rarely ate but when i did it was usually liquid, like soup.
if your doctor isnt giving you the antibiotics which you need, go to a clinic. thats what i did
in the meantime, just rest lots and drink a lot of hot/cold liquids.
feel better!

As a frequent strep throat sufferer, sorry for your pain.
Use ibuprophen (Advil) for pain, take 3 tablets at a time (as long as you are not allergic).
I find that really cold drinks help to numb my throat and make swallowing easier.
But really, not much can be done until you are better. Eat soft foods, like chicken broth & pudding and get some sleep.
Wish I could be more helpful, but you have already used everything I use. Except I found that Sucrets worked best for longer term relief and of course, icy cold drinks! After the first few painful gulps your throat should numb up and eat then!

You can eat, you just need to stick to soft foods. Soup (the salt will sting so get the low salt kind), pudding, ice cream, oatmeal, stuff like that.
There isn't much you can do for the pain. Advil will help some, will also take some of the swelling down. If you have a health food store nearby, see if they carry a tea called "Throat Coat". It uses slippery elm bark and relieves some of the pain. It seriously feels like your throat is coated with teflon when you drink it, lol. But the effect doesn't last long.

See a different doctor, this guy sounds like a jerk. Maybe the prescription he gave you wasn't strong enough. When I had Strep throat, the only thing that didn't hurt too much to swallow was really hot herbal tea with honey. Hope you feel better soon. A little tip a doctor gave me once, after you have strep throat, get a new toothbrush, otherwise you could re-infect yourself.

In most cases, antibiotics will quickly wipe out the bacteria behind the infection. In the meantime, try these tips to relieve symptoms of strep throat:
Get plenty of rest. Sleep helps your body fight infection. If you have strep throat, stay home from work if you can. If your child is ill, keep him or her at home until there's no sign of fever and he or she feels better.
Drink plenty of water. Keeping a sore throat lubricated and moist eases swallowing. Drinking plenty of water also helps prevent dehydration.
Eat soothing foods. Foods that are easy on a sore throat include broths, soups, applesauce, cooked cereal, mashed potatoes, soft fruits, yogurt and soft-cooked eggs. You may even want to puree foods in the blender to make them easier to swallow. Very cold foods such as sherbet, frozen yogurt or frozen fruit pops also may be soothing. Avoid spicy foods or acidic foods such as orange juice.
Gargle with warm salt water. For older children and adults, gargling several times a day can help relieve throat pain. Mix 1/4 teaspoon of table salt in 8 ounces of warm water. Be sure to tell your child to spit out the liquid after gargling.
Use a humidifier. Adding moisture to the air can help ease discomfort. Moisture keeps mucous membranes in your throat from becoming dry and even more irritated. Choose a cool-mist humidifier and clean it daily, because bacteria and molds can flourish in some humidifiers. Saline nasal sprays also help to keep mucous membranes moist.
Stay away from irritants. Cigarette smoke can irritate a sore throat and increase the likelihood of infections such as tonsillitis. In addition, avoid fumes from paint or cleaning products, which can be irritating to your throat and lungs.

Call the doctor's office and speak with his nurse. Tell her what's going on. It sounds like you need some additional evaluation.
If that fails you may want to hit the local ER or urgent care clinic. You need to be careful not to get dehydrated which can make you feel sicker. Try to at least drink stuff, even if you can't eat. Warm (not hot) things like clear soup may go down.
If you get to the point where you can't swallow at all - like you're having to spit your saliva out (sorry to be gross) - you need, no matter what, to get to an ER pronto.

Sucking on Popsicles will help take down the inflammation. Afterwards you should be able to have some hot soup. don't try eating a lot of food at this time. Stick with liquids.
