My friend has been dating this guy for about a week now. However, he never takes her anywhere nice. They always meet at a sleazy bar in the local neighboorhood. He has bought her flowers and she bought him candy. She calls him and he does not really call her. He will not take her anywhere nice like to dinner. He just wants to meet at the bar. Is this considered a date?

Unfortunately for him, he may consider it a date.

For her, it may or may not be. Does she consider it a date?

IMO he's playing her. He rarely calls and most likely only gives her candy to keep her eye on him.

Doesn't sound like a great guy if all they do is go to sleezy bars and doesn't call her.

She ought to cut back on how often she calls, play hard to get a little bit.

I would say this is kind of a date. A cheap one at that. But, my main concern would be that he doesn't wanna go out into the real public that he might be someone else's man or husband. I would suggest that she offer to take him out on a date to somewhere very public and see if he accepts. She might have to come out of her pocket but it will be worth the money in the long run if he is attached to someone else.

IF they both consider it a date yes, though by the sounds of it this guy isn't going to be around much longer because a nice dinner would probably go along way.

I consider that whenever you go somewhere with a guy and the intentions are to move forward in the relationship. If you are interested in moving forward in your relationship then maybe you should consider them dates.

just hanging out is a date, you dont neccasarily have to go to a fancy restaraunt to go on a date... when i first met my husband, we would just drive around, get hot cocoa from chevron, drive to the dam. and i was soo happy with that, just to be around him. your friend should just try not calling him for a while and see if he will call her. then if he does, obviously he wants to see her or misses her... good luck to your friend! have a blessed day!

You and I may not consider this a date, but obviously she does. The bottom line is--is this anybody's business but hers? Be a true friend and just be happy for her!

Its only been a week. Maybe he just wants to get to know her better in a comfortable environment

Yeah, it is. But I think, the guy doesn't mean anything romantic about it. Maybe she considers your friend as his close friend.
