What's the difference between NYC, LA, and DC?

They are different cities. Shanghai was closer to the western culture but never been a capital of China. Beijing, means North capital while Nanjing means South capital. But after 1967-1977 culture uproar, there isnt much to see in Nanjing.

For sightseeing, Beijing is the best. But for foreigner, they may like Shanghai because it is closer to the west. But then why you want to see an image of the old west in China? Why not seeing the real Chinese China in Beijing?

1. Temperature: Shanghai and Nanjing are warmer in the winter, While all three are hot and humid in the summer.
2. Shanghai and Nanjing are close to each other.
3. They are all very modernized city. Nanjing is smaller in size and population.
3.Shanghai is known as China's NYC, a good competitor for HK as east Asia's financial hub. However, compared to Nanjing and Beijing, SH has less historical sites or culture for foreigners to explore. Both Beijing and Nanjing are over 1k yrs old. They have both functioned as China's capital in multiple dynasties. SH is just a commercial hub that was opened for trading in late 1800's.

I can answer from my perspective.
Nanjing is so much smaller that it is not in the same catagory. I consider it a more industrialized city.
Beijing is the heart of Chinese government and associated with traditional China. You must associate it with Communism, Mao, the Great Wall and China's past.
Shanghai/Pudhong is the "wild child" of China. Being Shanghai'd is a common word referring to it's active and somewhat disreputable past. Pudhong is symbolic of modern China and is just incredible.

This is a great question and I am sure that everyone has their own answer. I love all three cities.
