Buffy coat is a thin layer of centrifuged blood with a buff color between the plasma and the red cells. It contains the white cells of the blood and since red blood cells are the only cells without DNA in our bodies it has the only DNA in the blood.

The Buffy Coat is also where researchers and doctors look for blood parasites like West Nile or Malaria.
