Nikola Tesla was a genius kook... incredibly interesting person that you may enjoy researching. He was a Croatian immigrant who worked for Tho mas Edison for a bit, and designed the power grid at Niagra Falls in addition to many other electrical engineering inventions. He died in the 1940's.

Nikolai Tesla was a prominent early pioneer in electrical engineering. In some parts of Europe and particularly in some parts of Yahoo Answers he is worshipped as a god.
He was similar in his fields of interest to Edison but Edison had a much-better press agent. Edison was a tireless worker but rarely had real insights into what he was working on. Press coverage trumps engineering skills so poor Nikki doesn't get enough credit.
