Sounds like you need to do some basic maintenance bud.

Do a disk cleanup and system defragment then try it again.

if you are using the newest version of word on an old computer that is what happens. You need to get a newer computer for it to work properly. IF it is a new computer with the new Microsoft Word, i don't know what the computer is. if you can't uninstall something, some of your "Microsoft Windows" Programs have been removed. To fix this, you need to restore the computer and start over... IF it is an old computer with the old version, you should probably do the same thing. I hope that helped you out a little. If it didn't sorry!

You sound annoyed that word doesn't work. Face it, microsoft has a huge monopoly on the word processing business. It's unstable, inefficient, and innacurate at displaying documents.

Openoffice : http://www.openoffice.org/index.html

It has all the features of office (and more) it's free, and it saves in a format that is readable by MS office (so you won't have any compatability problems with school)

Go, now. Download. I insist.

...

If you REALLY want to use office, right click the office icon and press 'properties'. Go to the tab that says 'compatability', and set it to run in compatability mode. That's the best advice I can give you with MS word.

But don't bother with it, really, it sucks.

Probably the file "normal.dot" has corrupted. It might be in c:\program files\microsoft\office\templates. Try removing it and see if word starts properly. If word starts up, next time you close it a new version of normal.dot will be created. You will have to re-select your default fonts, text sizes, language &c as these are held in the file.
