Has anyone ever signed up with one of those copmpanies that sends you a credit card and says you have a significant amount of credit, but you can only make catalog purchases with them? I wanted to know are they even worth it and what has been your experience with them?

Oh yes, some are good like Fingerhut and Blair but you are limited to only the things that they sell and their prices are not always the best.

But, on the other hand, they do report to the credit bureaus so it's a good way to build credit.

This is the scheme where it sounds like you're applying for a real major credit card and you end up with a card only good for the catalog. I don't like the way the get people to sign up for starters.

But the merchandise is outrageously overpriced! Buying at rent to own places would be cheaper. I think they even have a bunch of fees, including initial membership and annual fees.

But your limited to only that junk their selling.

Better to get a real CC, then you can shop anywhere,
and have a lot of rights.

I haven't heard of this, but it sounds like a scam to me. I wouldn't do it.
