My husband is currently in Iraq, back in June I applied for housing...well I wanted to know how long the wait was so I called and talked to someone over the wait list..she said there was a note that I had requested off the list..yet I never did..then she said have you talked to your husband lately, I said yes I'm talking to him now..she said oh ok thats good..on Aug. 16th they got a report that he was KIA...so she said she would get us back on the list and call me back..however she never did..I just called her back and she said that the report was wrong but yet it still says I had requested to get off the list which I never did..so now she has to talk to her manager to get us back on the list however she isnt sure if she can get us back to where we were on the list cuz well none of us know.... Has anyone had this problem...or know if anything can be done about this..I mean dear god..what if I hadn't talked to him but yet he was fine..I was gonne be told he was KIA

If I were you I'd start documenting who I talked to over there, when and what they said just for your records. I wouldn't rely on someone else to talk to the manager for me, I'd be calling hourly if that's what it took to get through to the manager. I'd make sure they know that you want to be reinstated to at least your prior spot.
If the manager can't do it then ask who supervises her. If it's a private company then you start with the coroporate office AND the military office that supervises them. If this is the military office then you go up the chain of command.
Your ombudsman (or key volunteer or whoever your command has as a go between for the command and the spouses) can be a very useful resource for who to talk to next. They also may be able to make some calls on your behalf. The chaplains can do something very similar. Which is why either of these people would be good ones to talk to now.
If you hit a stone wall or find that no one can get the situation fixed then you have some further options. They may get it fixed but put you in the hot seat but they are there. Call your congressman, both for your DH's home of record and the state the base is in. Sometimes all it takes is a couple of questions on their part to get things looked into. Sometimes they even care enough to visit and make sure of what's going on. You can also resort to the media but that is often less effective than you'd think.

I would get together any proof you have of his being alive when the request was supposedly recieved..phone records, emails, letters. I would also ask to see a copy of the letter requesting the removal from the housing list and provide them with a copy of both your signature and your husbands. I would also request to know who first handled the procedure and how they verified the information. Do not deal with the general office workers in housing, you want the supervisor from now on. I would also have yur husband contact his command back in the states and ask them to assist you in resolving this. They should get you back on the list, at the point you were at prior to this occuring. I would also send a registered letter to your congressman's, senator's and the base commander's office. Inform the housing office you have done this...it may be enough to get them on track. I would also contact the base legal office and ask them what the procedures for being removed from the list are and what can be done to correct this.

If you have any proof what so ever to the staement that She said He is Listed as KIA, and you can get documentation, there is a law suit in the making.
OH yes the Chaplin How could I have forgotten and the Red cross.
Our Military aint all that religous, but if the Chaplins says DO IT, you better bet GOD GLORY AND THE Government will bend over backward to see that it gets done. the Chaplin is just about as High as you can go in the Military, when it comes to Family issues, Thats there Second Main reason for being there.

I'd start with the base chaplain. Not for religious reasons but because they have access to everyone and can cut through red tape and solve problems. The chaplain can definitely determine whether your husband is dead or alive, but I can tell you that if he was dead, you would have been informed via a personal visit by two officers, one of them a chaplain.
I suspect that at the root of this situation is some sort of vindictive action by another military wife. Having you been in a hassle with anyone?

Ombudsman is in the Navy. You need to get ahold of the rear detatchment of your husband's unit. You should be able to call the post operator at Ft. Hood and give them your hubby's unit info and they can give you the proper phone number to call. You could also got to the fort hood website www.hood.army.mil and probably get the phone number there.

You could call your congressman, however the ombudsman for your husbands company will be considerably more useful.

I was stationed at Ft. Hood for a long time, and lived in housing... They do have a tendency to try and get their way... Just keep bothering them. If you have to, go to the post commander and complain to him....
