I'm leaving for about 3 days, I don't mind to keep 3 of my dogs in the kennel.. but my mini dachshund hates strangers. He will sometimes snap and act like he's going to bite a visitor (in my home), once he actually did bite a person.
Should I take him or let my cousin stay in my house to babysit (although she probably doesn't want to). Can the kennel sue me or report me to animal control if he bites one of them?

All of my dogs are UTD on shots, Marty is just a spoiled dog that needs to get in obedience training soon.

I would have your cousin stay with him.
You should look into obedience training. If he ever bites someone---you and the dog could be in trouble.

If the kennel is a reputable one they will not get bitten because the will not interact with the dog. The kennel we have in my town is one of the highest rated in the USA and they do not handle or go into the runs of dogs they are told not to. In fact they do not take most of the dogs out period since if they run in a yard alone they risk disease exposure or escaping and if run with another dog they risk a fight. This kennel has boarded Fl. cougars b4 so is a very secure place. And getting bitten is probably one of the natural risks a kennel person runs just like a vet who can not sue either. Tell them your dog has a poor temperament and needs to be left alone and they should abide by your wishes.

If your dog has issues with eople in your own home he will bite anyone anywhere, weather it be your cousin or a kennel. A kennel just may be safer for your pet as it will be confined in a space to where he can't hurt anyone. I don't know about you but if I asked my family knowing that my dog was mean and he hurt my family I'd really feel awful. Pay some one they already know the risk and usually don't hold you liable. Thats like taking your dog to the vet and the vet getting bit, it is his job and a hazard of the trade.

I would as your cousin first, if your biting one likes her.
If you take them to the kennel , be sure you warn them about his aggression, they might not take him. Call and check first.
Check with a neighbor tooo and see if they can just stay home
Also there are some places where you can have a pet sitter come in and take care of your dogs. You could check with that too.
Good Luck , travelling and having dogs are a pain sometimes. I go thru the same things.. but my 2 dogs are not aggressive to strangers..

Couple of things that may make it easier on Marty
1. make sure the kennel knows that Marty is a fear-biter and should be handled with care.
2. A couple of nights before you leave, sleep with an old towel - one you don't mind if it gets lost. Let Marty take this with you - your scent can help to make him feel more at ease.
3. Same with a toy that he's familiar with - but you don't care if he loses. That familiar object can make him feel more comfortable.

1. The kennel should be prepared for biting dogs, make sure that you warn them beforehand... they may even be able to handle him.
2. If you pay your cousin to house sit, then she can take care of all three dogs. Although she may not like it, if you trust her, then you can afford to pay her 50% of what you were going to pay the kennel... and that should be a very good incentive, and a very good savings for you.

I think it would be the least stressful for your dogs if you had someone come and stay at your house. Or maybe have a neighbor kid come into to feed and take the dogs out. Plus it'll save a lot of money.

Check all your local kennels, and tell them about your dogs behavior. You want him to be safe. Some kennels will take dogs that have issues.

Your dogs will feel much more at home at home. I highly recommend getting a house sitter that is familiar with their needs. We have a large doggy door and we just leave them, a neighbor checks them and feeds them. That seems to work out best for us-
Good luck

If you can avoid it at all, don't do the kennel. It is just not a good idea to keep dogs there.
