I picked up an old fashion 3M overhead projector at an auction. I would like to show some of my old family photos on the wall with it at a family reunion as well as some old childhood drawings on construction paper that are done with crayon. Can you tell me how to run this machine so it shows up on a wall. Thanks!!

You will have to make transparencies of your documents. You can buy transparency film at an office supply store, and then have color copies made onto the transparencies. (A transparency is just a clear sheet of plastic).

Then, the light shines through the transparency, is reflected off the mirror, and shines the image onto the wall.

An overhead projector works by shining light through a transparancy and projecting the image on the wall. You can't project an image through construction paper or photographs, unfortunately, so this probably will not work for you.

If you're talking about what I think you are talking about, you can't...unless it is a certain specific kind of projector which shone a bright light onto a page/photo, and used the magic of optics to project the image on the wall.

Most operated with clear plastic sheets or rolls.

Assume that the bulb and lens being ok, any image you want projected on the wall will most likely need to be on a clear transfer sheet or similar so the image will show up.

Scan and save the image to your computer, if you haven't already, and the just print the image onto a clear sheet.

Wal-Mart or most any office supply place will have these, and it's fairly cheap

Those old fashioned projectors worked with "transparencies" placed on the base (where the light shines up from) ... it cannot work with "solid" objects since the light cannot shine THROUGH them to be reflected / projected. (All you'll see is the shape / shadow of the object that's blocking the projector's light)
