Sony... 1 year but HAVE TO HAVE A RECIEPT and chronic overheating problems on PS2 thin and others and chronic battery problem on PSP

Microsoft extends warranty to 3 years at large cost and takes fixes machines based on serial number not receipt.

With this expensive toy breaking so frequently I will go with the company that fixes it's stuff rather than saying " no tickie, no laundry"

dude, no I am comparing a company's decision to not support failing products to a company that fixes their problems.

The question is not about who has the best graphics. It's about expensive toys that break.

So perhaps my kid is the only one to have a psp 3 months old die. Grandparents gift at christmas, no receipt. AND a PS2 8 months old die needing new laser, no receipt. NO SERVICE.

Xbox360 1.5 years old w/red ring of death, Microsoft fixed it.

SO just from my small sample, I'd guess the sony products are as prone to failure as microsoft.

And I hate windows (UNIX is much better) so don't call me a microsoft cheerleader. It's not something that comes easy.

If you knew as many people as I do that have had to send in thier 360s for repair you would not be asking this question.
of the ones that have sent in thier machine, 3 have had to send it in at least once more, 1 3 times more for a total of 4times. Each time it took about 3-5 weeks to repair. A few times, the machine failed again upon the first use once getting sent back.
THAT is the reason there is a 3yr warranty. I'm not a PS fanboy, I own all systems EXCEPT the 360. The 360 gets the "Red Ring of Death", has problems connecting wirelessly a lot and even it's periferals are smoking. So I say no thanks to the 360.
To me, it looks like PS learned thier lesson from the first PS2s. And even then, the PS2 didn't fail as much as the 360. Microsoft was so keen to be out in the market first that they messed things up royally.

besides, with any system you buy, you should always get the instore warranty. I have the best Buy warranty and can just take my system in and get a new one right there and then. I've done it in the past with other products.

Go ahead and get your 360 and while you're at it, you might as well call microsoft now for your coffin that way you're ready to send it in when it get the red rings, because it will.

The large charge off for their extension of warranty was to take into consideration that they (Microsoft) expects, get that, EXPECTS that almost ALL of their 360s will have the red rings problem at one point or another.

From what I've heard recently forget your 2-4 weeks without your consolse too, because they're getting so many, I'm hearing average turnaround on those is now up to 6-8 weeks.

So buy it today, play it for a while, have it die on you, then sit for 2 months without your console, while the rest of us smart ones that purchased the PS3 are playing games.

I'm not sure buying a console on the fact that you know it's going to go bad, but at least you'll be covered is just not real smart.
The PS3 warranty is good enough because you will most likely NOT have to use it. Whereas the MS warranty is ok because it's almost certain you're going to need it.

Here's the other thing to consider, although they know what the problem is and have identified how to fix it and what to fix, they still haven't done it yet by putting it into production. Refurbbed units that are coming out are still under the same mold as the older ones.

The only reason the Xbox 360 has the 3 year warranty is because of the red ring of death problem. Plus, why would you want to buy something if there was a good chance that you would have to return it? I don't know why Microsoft keeps selling those Xbox's when the failure rate of them is around 30%.

Microsoft needs to stop selling those inferior consoles and use HD-DVD's for their games so that they can be considered a real competitor to Sony. The PS3's games are bigger, better, and have more detail because of the Blu-Ray disc, but the 360 is still stuck with DVD games. DVD's are slowly becoming a thing of the past.

in my view i like the Ps3, I grew up with the playstation , PS2, and PSP. The PS3 additionally has netflix hulu etc. The controllers dont somewhat count huge style, once you get your console doubt that should be your first theory. Ive had my ps3 for 3-4 years now purely had one situation yet I fixed it via purely unplugging it and the Ps3s that usually have issues have been the 1st ones that released(not the slender). till you play standard or play all of the time i might flow with Ps3. I even have many friends that use the Xbox yet I stay with it, I even have friends that Ps3s so Im happy. The Ps3 has Blu-ray and the Xbox has kinect. it is something you will could desire to think of roughly however the ps3 has flow. besides the fact that if I had flow or kinect I wouldnt somewhat use it. The Xbox has greater video games yet thats a private selection. I dont have any lag issues(yet I even have reliable connection). It somewhat relies upon on your connection. additionally I doubt you would be throwing your ps3 like a soccer so the plastic is wonderful and the touch buttons may be a worry in case you have been to by risk touch it. You compare the PS3 to the 360 in your question, but say that you are comparing the two companies that make them while not at all refering to the PS3. the reason that Microsoft extended their warranty to 3 years is because the 360 has massive hardware failure issues. Beyond that, I have heard of people having slim PS2's overheat and PSP's having battery problems, but no more so than one would expect for any other product. If anything, the 360 is the system with hardware failure issues. The whole "you must have a receit" thing is a legal issue with people turning in expensive products with no proof that they themselves bought it and is completely reasonable. and if any product is considered expensive and breaks frequently, then it is poorly made, which is one thing that the PS3 is not. Send a clear message if you want to send one, not a fanboy exploiting loopholes in their statements one.

You may want to bear in mind that the 3 year 360 warranty is for the 'red ring of death' problem only, anything else is just as standard, i'm afraid.
A problem, i may add, that Microsoft took over a year to admit to (and then, was mainly due to a possible class action being applied making them recall all their consoles).
Point is, Microsoft took out the ext. war. because it had to. Allegedly over a third of its machines suffered (most consoles have a failure rate (PS3 inc.) of around 1-3%, not over 30%).

Don't look so rosy now, eh?

Xbox is a clear favorite of mine. Comparatively i think the gameplay is a lot better on the 360 as it is.
