As she walked out in a huff, she supposed said "We believe in GOD" to explain why she was so upset over Nye's statement.
Apparently, they took issue with the conflict between fact of the moon as a reflector of ligh and the biblical reference of the moon as "a lesser light to govern the darkness."

I'm a bit skeptical of that, especially since the Waco Tribune "mysteriously pulled the article from its online page" to hide its embarrassment...meaning, of course, that nobody can double-check the article to authenticate it. I suspect an urban legend in the making here.

The sad thing is that these people who insist on taking the Bible literally, do not take most of it literally. Otherwise, she would be stoning disobedient children and not speaking in church.
As a Christian, I have no problem whatsoever with acknowledging that the moon reflects light.....since it does. Whether it "reflects" light or glows from its own inner light, God still made it and that's the important point to me.

Yeah , ignorance is everywhere check out 360 Hmm! Some fundamentalists do not know what they talk about, they are like the peasants in the old country. What every the priest say is the truth instead of one man's opinion. To some we should not go into out space for it is against God's law. They say ignorance is bliss but for me it can get us killed.

Her problem is that she is taking the Bible quite literally.
As an Evangelical Christian, I understand the Bible often speaks figuratevly, metaphorically.
The bible is God's Word...that is, His Word as revealed through His prophets. But the interpretation of those words, and deciding what they mean, is our own.
