people that lump all "christians" under one stereotype. why do you (of ANY faith-or lack of) think this is so? is it just the fact that all of us believe in the same God, so that makes all of our thought processes the same? that we all have the same personalities and characteristics? that christians can't get an education? and when we are educated, just because we have faith and hope in something we can not see or touch, we are automatically morons/stupid/uneducated/simple-minded?
this is a serious question, i am not being sarcastic (i know, many of you are shocked)
i know and realize there are fundamentalists/extremists out there that give christianity a bad name; but isn't that the case for all religions?

You get lumped for the same reasons you lump all those that do not believe in your god as Devil Worshipers. And when I say 'you' I mean 'Christians', especially on Y!A. I don't know that you specifically do this or not, and you know what? I personally don't care if you do or not. There are enough loud mouth intolerant arseholes in the world that ruin it for the rest of us, and yes I mean for everyone of their 'group' be it race, class, faith, or other. If you are a good person, that take comfort that you know you are and so does your chosen god and let the idiots prove that they are, in fact, idiots. I hope you don't take my words as sarcastic or attacking, they are not meant that way. I'm just trying to lay my thoughts out in as simple a form as I can.

Do onto others as you would have done onto you.

my wonderful christian friend. in this forum, i often address questions to one group or another. i try to use the term "many christians" instead of just "christians"

there are many many fundies who make your religion look bad, and they seem to be very vocal about their craziness, just as there are fundies of every religion who do the same. in my faith, we call them fluffy bunnies - they're the teenagers who are rebelling against their parents and want to use love spells on boys like they see on tv - urgh!

for those who know you, they know you don't fall into the stereotype of an uneducated redneck christian who's father-brother is now your husband, and doesn't know how live life to it's fullest.

there are many like you here in R&S such as rachel and rp, just to name a couple, and they get much respect from non christians. although rachel sometimes gets flack from her fellow christians :(

don't let things get you down sweetie, you're better than that!

you have many people who love you, including your god, and if i could give you a hug of encouragement right now, i would!

That's a good point to remember when you encounter people of Islamic faith.

The frightning thing is when someone says they're Christian what do we expect from them. Seldom do they mention they are Liberal Quaker or Westbro Baptist. Perhaps the charge Christians have put on Islam applies here, stand up to your fundamentalist. If you're not against them then you're for them.

I still love all of you.

It's called stereotyping. It is just easier to lump people together based on certain characteristics and talk about a group as a whole than it is to pick individual people. Everybody does it (even when they specifically try not too.)

Look at your words - you have faith and hope in something you cannot see or touch. That is much different from - god exists and he speaks to me and all of the rest of you are going to hell. You may be different, which makes you functional on an intellectual level.

EVERYONE gets lumped into one stereotype or another at some point, it's a product of widespread ignorance, it isn't just you guys. Learn to live with it.

I agree, yet everytime I try to give the benefit of the doubt, all those stereotypes fall right back into place from the actions of your fellow christians.

You're right to an extent, however, the very concept of "christian belief" requires belief in something that isn't fact...it's faith. Therefore the concept requires the very same thought process, faith over fact. You see christianity challenging science, and even intelligent christians side with the faith, or try to twist it to fit both.

Christians will challenge something sitting right in front of their nose, yet won't waiver a bit on some old story of god. Stupid ones, intelligent ones, and all of those in between. It's almost frightening.

THANK YOU FOR ASKING THIS QUESTION!!!!! YOU ARE SO RIGHT, GIRLFRIEND!!! LOL... There are so many in the church who think they are better than anyone else who doesn't belong to their church... like it's been the only one blessed by God!!! We are ALL equal in God's eyes!!!!! so DON'T go thinking you're better than anyone else cuz you're richer, or go to a mega church, or are more educated than the next person....

oooooooo don't get me started!!!!!

THANK you for this!

Why can't we just band together to speak Christ's love on the board - and try to be kind to each other... maybe it will influence others to do the same...

Ya never know...

Peace dear one.
