cutting out meat is not the best way to lose weight (i messed up my metabolism that way when i was 16)
to lose weight and keep it off you have to make lifestyle changes - you have to be able to follow the diet every day of your life.
find daily calorie intake calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours - it optimizes your metabolism)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have protein (lean meat, legumes etc) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio is the only fat burning exercise and burns fat all over your body (running, jogging, swimming, spinning, elliptical etc) 4-6 times a week for 30-50min (ideally 45min because the first 20-30min body burns carbs and only then starts burning fat), weight training a few days a week but never work on the same muscle group two days in a row (more muscle=faster metabolism)
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, pasta etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

Are you trying to lose weight by being a vegetarian? Eh, I personally think it's much harder to keep your energy up without a good amount of protein from lean meat such as white meat chicken and fish. (both of which are very low calories and pretty much no fat) I stay away from too much red meat though. If you insist on not eating meat make sure you eat soy beans (edamame) which are loaded with protein and good stuff! BUT you won't lose weight if you don't eat enough too! So make sure you eat breakfast (always) and a snack or small healthy meal every 2-4 hours. never go longer then 4 hrs without some fuel or your metabolism will just slow down and your body will go into starvation mode and hold on to every fat cell like you have. (so it will be harder to lose weight) I know it seems like a lot of eating but it's a neccessity. Just make sure you're eating the right things.
breakfast : 3-4 egg whites, piece of whole grain toast, piece of fruit
snack: lowfat yogurt and handful of raw almonds
lunch: either turkey sandwich with lettuce/tomato and lowfat italian dressing on whole grain bread OR if you do the vegetarian thing try a greens salad with some gorgonzola cheese and sliced almonds and kidney or bean of your choice (edamame!)----> find it shelled in a bag in the freezer Add a piece of fruit if you are still hungry
snack: banana
dinner: beans or legumes, lean meat or meat substitute like tofu sauteed in garlic and olive oil
if you want dessert try fat free ricotta cheese mixed with a handful of semi sweet chocolate chips and a splenda packet.

Hey.
My advice is not to start eating less but to start eating more of the right stuff. By the way, you won't lose any more fat after becoming vegetarian than if you would when continuing to eat meat.
To lose weight, eat at least 5 times a day (breakfeast, snack, lunch, snack, dinner). At meals don't eat more carbs than you need to since the energy will turn to fat if not used. But remember that they are important so don't exclude them. Also it's important to eat the right type of carbs. Eat the type that is digested slowly (bread, pasta, oatmeal porridge) as oppposed to fast carbs (candy, sweets etc). Slow carbs and fiber will also keep you full longer.
Fat is also an essential and is beneficial at the right amounts. The fats you want to choose are mono- and polyunsaturated fats (vegetable fats, omega 3, 6,9 etc). Unfortunately nowadays you can't get away from saturated and transfats but as much as possible try to avoid them.
Last of all there are great natural sources for vegetarians proteinwise. You can eat cottage cheese, drink whey protein shakes, eat beans, quinoa etc. But just eating protein is not a good way to go. It's important as mentioned to also eat carbs and fat and to eat the right amount of vitamins and minerals.
Eating properly and excersising go together great and will help you lose weight even more. Just be sure to train at the right level. In other words for fat burning don't train to exhaustion since this will result in more of a cardio than a fat burning workout.

Becoming a vegetarian won't necessarily help you lose weight. There are quite a few overweight vegetarians out there. If you want to become a vegetarian to lose weight, you're making a switch for the wrong reasons. Besides, plant proteins are not as good for your body as animal proteins, and most of the foods that have animal protein in them have other valuable nutrients like vitamins, minerals, and mono-and-polyunsaturated fats (which aid in weight loss and keep your cholesterol levels where they need to be).
Here are some tips to help you lose weight without going 100% veggie:
1. You MUST exercise if you want to lose weight and keep it off, so do something every day, even if it’s just a 15-minute walk around the neighborhood. Don’t say you don’t have time for exercise; you have to MAKE time. Yes, it takes time and effort, but you’re worth it, right?
2. Walk as much as you want, but don’t do cardio for more than 40 minutes at a time. If you do, you risk burning muscle instead of fat.
3. If you do strength training, use light weights and do lots of repetitions. That’ll really help you “tone up.”
4. Your diet will make you or break you. You have probably learned bad eating habits over time (most people do). That’s not your fault, but now you have to deal with it. Make a commitment to yourself to unlearn those bad habits and re-learn better habits.
5. Eat breakfast every day within an hour of getting up. People who don’t are 450% more likely to be overweight.
6. Eat six small meals or snacks per day instead of three squares per day or one big meal per day. Your body expends energy digesting your food, so eating smaller portions more often keeps your metabolism running high because you’re constantly digesting food.
7. Avoid these as much as possible:
-- Trans fat (any type of partially or fully hydrogenated oil)
-- High fructose corn syrup (soft drinks are LOADED with it)
-- Fast food
-- Junk food
-- White sugar, white flour, white rice, white potatoes
-- The deadly C’s (cookies, cakes, candy, chips, cola)
8. Build your diet around these trim-body-friendly foods:
-- Nuts, any kind (almonds are best)
-- Beans/Legumes
-- Fresh vegetables (green is GREAT!!!)
-- Dairy products (as long as they’re low-fat or non-fat)
-- Eggs
-- Lean meats (fish and poultry top the list)
-- Olive oil
-- Whole grain breads/cereals/pasta
-- Fresh fruits (anything that ends in “berry” is a winner)
-- Tea (green tea or black pekoe tea)
-- Cold water or ice water (your body has to expend extra calories to heat it up)
9. Desserts and treats are the exception, not the rule. Having said that, however, (1) you can have a couple of pieces of chocolate every day – just don’t overdo, and (2) Allow yourself one “cheat meal” every week where you eat and drink whatever you want as long as you don’t gorge yourself. That’ll help keep you from feeling deprived and it’ll make it easier to stick with your new healthy eating plan.
Good luck!

I'd say you will, but once you quit that way of eating you will prob gain some back. You need to eat more raw foods such as fruits n veggies. More of what you need also.
