I have two 4 year old yorkies (Bijou and BonJovi) :] They both have watery eyes constantly, and are prone to try and paw at them, or rub their faces on random things (their bedding, chair/table legs, peoples pant legs, etc) to try and stop them from itching, but of course, this just makes the problem worse. The vet gave us some sort of ointment to put in their eyes, but it's clearly labeled as an antibiotic, and I don't think it's an infection, because even after we used the ointment for its prescribed course, the watery-ness still comes back. I'm thinking they might have allergies? They have the hair trimmed away from their eyes and faces, we bathe them once a week and we wash their bedding/pillows constantly, and they are still itchy! Any suggestions on how to bring them both some relief?

Do they sneeze alot or have stuffy noses? My Shih Tzu has terrible allergies and has to take medication daily for it. His eyes get watery and he paws at them, and his ears itch so he paws and scratches at them until he ends up with ear infections. When he is on his medication none of the symptoms are there, so I would talk to the vet again. Just a word also, I was pooh poohed by two vets about dogs and allergies, but the new vet who took over, that was the first thing she suggested and as soon as he started on the medication I knew she was right because he was feeling better in a day or so.

They Can Sting, Turn Red, Itch, Or Be Puffy From Allergies. It Doesn't Have To Be A Dramtic Change.

Yorkies have this common problem, Feed them a high qaulity food. If it has beet pulp that will cause watery eyes. If its allergies you think try a benadryl. 25 MG per 25 pounds body weight. But it sounds to me as its the food.

i might be that they have cherry eye, where the lower lash actually tilts inward and irrates the eye until one of their 3 tear ducts gets inflamed and that means surgery I'm not sure how common it is with yorkies but i know with my pekingese that's what happened when he hit about 3 months old.
