All you chihuahua owners that have chihuahuas. I have a few questions if you can answer for me.
1. Does your Chi Bark allot?
2. How many times a week or month do you bathe it?
3. How much do they eat?
4. I dont want the dog sleeping in my bed with me because they are too dirty for that but will they be fine if they sleep in a room every nite?
5. Are they very peaceful dogs?
6. Are they good around children if a child can take care of it for half of the day. 11 or 12 year old for my neice.
7. Anything your dog does all day or how they behave?
I have done my research on chihuahuas and I do know ALLOT about them thanks to Yahoo answers and other websites and books. I just need peoples opinions or info on how your little one behaves. (were thinking of getting one)

Some people say ALLOT of different things about the chihuahuas. How do you train them so they can be social around dogs and other people? : )

Blessed1 I LOVE dogs and I can hug pet them cuddle with them But for ONE i will not let them lick me. If you let a dog lick you its licked his BOTTOM b4. I do not think a dog is "nasty" but i do for one think there comes a limit as to giving your dog Love. Ok?

Blessed1. No actually thats not the only way of showing effection. You can show effection a whole different other ways. Letting a dog lick you isnt the MAIN effection. Victoria Stillwell clearly stated that Letting a dog lick you is really gross and bad. Shes from "Its me or the Dog" Please do not Judge People on how they show effection to their dogs and just because they dont show it how you do or how other people do it means that they are not Dog Lovers. So Please stop Posting More stuff. Thanks.

Hi! I have owned Chihuahuas for many years and am happy to answer your questions. I am no expert by any means but I love my dogs and I love the breed.

1. My Chi's have never barked alot. If someone new is here, yes they will bark but they never bark just to bark.
2. I bathe my Chi's once a month. They are all short haired except the one. The long hair gets bathed twice a month.
3. I use the "free feed" method. We leave food out for them at all times. Chihuahuas have problems with hypoglycemia so we try to make sure that is not an issue with ours by providing feed for them at all times.
4. My dogs do not sleep with me either. One of my Chi's sleeps on a little chair next to my bed. The others prefer to sleep in their crates at night. Crate train them early on and they will be happy there.
5. Chi's can be hyper but not overly so. They are very loving and I always feel peaceful with them around.
6. A older child, 11 or 12, will be fine with a Chihuahua. I do not recommend them for smaller children. Some chi's can be snippety to smaller children. It is usually because the Chi got scared. They are so small and everything is so big to them that they snip to defend themselves.
7. My dogs are well behaved and loving. I provide clean water and food for them and an occasional treat. They play well together and I provide rawhide bones and toys for them so they do not get bored.

I use to breed Chihuahuas.

Ours did not bark a lot for no reason. Some seem to be nervous which is what causes the yappyness problem. And I think the nervousness is a genetic trait that our dogs did not have.

You can bath weekly or monthly depending on the dogs activities.

They don't eat a huge amount. It would depend on the size of the dog.

We had a few dogs that we had in the house out of the kennel. Kept clean and allowed to sleep in our bed. They are not a dirty animal. But you could train it to sleep in a dog crate if you preferred in your room.

Chi's are very gutsy little dogs, they think they are as big as doberman! They however do not pick fights if that is what you mean and of course it depends on temperament.

Brought up around children they are very good with them.

They like to play they will stay close to you where ever you are.

Be sure to buy from a reputable breeder.

1. One of the chihauhau's I have does one doesn't
2.Usually one every week or if I'm low on time once every other week
3.Not much maybe a cup to a cup and a half of dry dogfood a day
4. yes
5. It depends on the temperment of your particular dog, some dogs are some aren't...it's not something you can answer for a breed in general
6. As long as their not tempermental, not mistreated by the child, and have had some training
7. They sleep alot, but they are also very playful and quite emotional dogs, if you're gone they will know it.

Well they aren't necessarily a friendly breed. Very protective of their owner Usually a dog that size will eat a cup a day. Triy to feed him twice a day, once in the morning, once at night a 1/2 cup each feeding, 1 cup total. They aren't good around children. Not all chihuahuas of course aren't friendly, I'm just being honest with you giving you the breed as a whole. They do bark yes, especially with seperation anxiety or fear. Just make sure of the following that if you are in fact getting this dog you are 100% responsible for them, this is not a toy you get tired of or keep in a purse like a pet rock. They'll live likely at least 10 years. Are you going to walk her, feed her, take her to the vet when she's sick, give her love and attention? Make sure she is licensed and gets her shots? Not neglect her, bathe her. Once a month, no more, damages coat oils otherwise. Good luck. Be responsible! I see too many neglected dogs in my job I deliver pet food for my family we have been around dogs all our lives we love them dearly. Also if you aren't an adult I vote 'NO' your mom or dad will be the one taking care of them not fair to the dog.

If you think dogs are nasty why are you getting one? How dirty can a chihuahua be??
All chi's are different. Mine is very protective. When people come to my house they're not looking out for my pit bull. My chi was sweet until I got pregnant and then he started being very protective of our house and everybody in it.
UPDATE: Your not even going to let your dog lick you!! That's how they show affection. Please don't get a dog, you make me sick, your NOT a dog lover.
