I am travelling to Los Angeles, CA in about 2-3 weeks. What are the best beaches in the area at this time of the year, especially beaches that would have a the most people within my age range (18-26)? If you can recommend any hotels close to those beaches, feel free. Thanks!

Long Beach has really nice beaches, and it's not to far away.

Zuma is a very popular beach for young people, and very crowded. Cons: It's near Malibu, home of all the rich and famous idiots we have out here. Stuff around there is very expensive, and surfers can be really mean to tourists.
Venice Beach is also popular with the younger crowd, has plenty of good sand, shopping (bargain - never pay full price at any of the shops on the boardwalk!) restaurants, volleyball, impromptu drum circles, and great people watching. It's close to Santa Monica, which has the pier with roller coaster, Third St promenade and plenty of restaurants/shopping. Cons: there are a lot of crazies, homeless and drug addicts - but they are fun to watch and mostly harmless.
If you are looking to come to CA for hanging out at the beach and having an "upscale" vacation - try Santa Monica (stay at Lowe's) or Long Beach. If you want to come and have some 21 yr old party fun, go to Venice or Manhattan Beach.

Manhattan Beach & Hermosa Beach are my favorites. Especially Hermosa Beach. They have their own "downtown" with stores, restaurants and bars and always things going on at the beach. The "strand" (paved path along the beach for bikes, rollerbladers & runners) is always good forpeople watching. Hotels can be high dollar on the beach but check these: Hotel Hermosa, Hampton Inn & Holiday Inn Express.
Hermosa Beach Chamber has a list of all of them. Have Fun.

There are many Redondo Beach is a wonderful beach to go to for family, Lots of Crab and lobster and clams and fun in the sun. But there is also Santa monica where like Redondo you can skateboard and bike and play volleyball. There are some bums in Santa Monica so be careful. There is Shutters on the Beach and Loews but they are expensive. Then there is also Huntington Beach i would advise you to go here you can Surf, rollerblade, and Newport Beach. Long beach is not really a beach where you can play in the water but there are alot of nice shops there is the Yard House, Souvenier hotsauce, Chocolate factory, etc. Whatever floats your boat! So to speak :)

Assuming that it hits somewhere near the city of Long Beach, there would be some significant property damage. If it hit out in the San Fernando Valley, people along the coastline might not even notice it until that evening's TV news broadcast.

Venice Beach for the people watching but its dirty... Santa monica is really ethnic and has fun shops close by, but my favorite is Newport. Newport is clean, good looking people. Laguna is lots of fun and has hot people!
