Trying to improve the speed of my boot up. I used "registryfix" to scan my machine and improve the speed. This cost me approx. £20 last year, I scanned this week and they say I had 30 prob's which was resolved. Machine no faster. On advice I loaded "regcure" who said I had 300 probs and for £20 resolved them.Machine no quicker. I tried a freebie "pointstone" who said I still have 300 probs but for another £30 would resolve them. What is going on?

Sounds like you've been taken.

Always use reputable sources for your software.

Norton Utilities is a good one.

For free software search sites like the following:

http://www.tucows.com/

TMD

you are being suckered into false programs that in all reality may be spam/trojans i see this all the time, there is no program to get rid of the program that was supposed to get rid of that other program, maybe spybot s&D or nortan /macfee but sypbot cant get em all and norton/mac are more annoying to me then some of the viruses.. if it gets too bad nuke & pave(erase hd, reinstall it all (takes a day but its worth it), buy new RAM(in a matched pair) with a fresh copy of windows and whatever legit programs you know you use... and it will run faster and hopefully more stable then before.
when you load IE7 make sure you have pop-up blocker turned on to its highest setting and only trust pop-ups from big name sites amazon etc..

make sure you temp int folder gets emptied everytime you close windows (under advanced)
bassically check every option that doesnt let things get downloaded and stored without asking you ..

with a proper intial setup you can live virus/trojan/glitch free for years, i've done it without ever buying anti-whatever programs. never had a virus or such smart browsing and downloading, and strict settings are all you really need.

Sounds like it. From my experience PC's are slow to boot, especially with the security stuff you need to have/start running to keep you safe.

Rather than using software programmes why don't you ask how to speed booting up your PC on here in the computer section, there are some simple steps you can do to make it boot faster I'm sorry but I can't remember them, I'm on a Mac now and my memory is v.bad.

Good luck.

Those programs don't do much for speeding up your computer. They just clean out files that you don't need anymore or what not ... but the computer still has processes running in the background ...and those you can't really delete (because you need them etc).

Best solution is just to upgrade ... whether it's buying a bit more RAM or getting a new SATA hard drive or a faster CPU.
While those programs clean out old/useless files, they are not a solution to speeding your computer up - that bit is a farse.

Most of them are a con.

De-fragment your computer, and apart from deleting any unused software (including all the stuff you downloaded), temp files, spyware and cookies regularly, there's not much you can do. Oh, and make sure you don't have much stuff on your desktop. That'll slow your computer down.

Save your money and take it to a computer shop for an MoT when it's a year or 18 months old.

All registry cleaners are about as useful as an inflatable dartboard.

Windows XP (I'm assuming that's what you've got) is very good at running with garbage in the registry, so that wouldn't slow down your bootup times - look elsewhere, starting with your startup programs (programs that start when Windows starts).

the products you are purchasing only clears the cookies that attach everytime you go to a sight. to speed your pc up try cleaning some old programs or memory from the hard drive. or erasing the hard drive. if this doesn't work maybe you need a faster internet service.

I paid for regcure last year, my time's up and they want me to renew, I won't because it didn't speed anything up more than the normal system tools and perhaps spybot couldn't do on their own.

You asked specifically to have your boot ime faster. So I won't go into things you can do to make your machine faster in general.

Try this: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/BootVis.shtml

It is free. You really shouldn't be shellilng all that money for tools that are readily available and free. Try this one. Hope it helps.
