IF you are breeding mixed dogs, what exactly are you doing to at least ensure they are healthy? What kinds of genetic testing are you doing? How do you assist a buyer to ensure they get the perfect puppy from your litter? Do you test the hips, eyes, elbows, or any other relevant issues in the breeds in your breeding stock? Do you offer no less than a 2 yr health guarantee on your dogs or more? If not, why? How often do you breed your female? How many times in her life? What age is her first breeding? How old is too old to breed?

Do you at least TITLE your dogs in obedience, rally, agility or anything at all to prove they can actually DO SOMETHING besides be "cute"?

How well do you screen your buyers? Do you have a Paypal purchase button on your websites to buy, sight unseen? Do you ever take pups back, or are they not your problem once sold? Do you do a spay/neuter contract? What are you doing to ensure consistency in your mix breedings to promote a proper standard for them?

I don't expect those who do this to answer really, but the way I see it, if they are not willing to show that they are doing the right things, then that silence is telling me they aren't doing it at all.

At the very least, maybe someone thinking of doing this will stumble across and think twice.

So, Dave, instead of critisizing a perfectly legitimate question, maybe you'll share answers of the questions I asked here that you and the wife do in your designer breedings. Someone asked for your OFA scores, I'd be curious to know those myself really...

Problem is that we all here know that you guys can't do this, can you?

I looked at my friend's chi and my shitsue and they looked healthy- I thought that was good- they are cute- and that's what's important right?

WHat is genetic testing? Is that like the jean testing I do on my pups? I ask buyer to come wearing their favorite designer jeans and give them the puppy that matches their jeans best.

I figure if the dog can use their hips, eyes, and elbows then they must be food enough.

I don't offer a health guarentee because it is not my problem- the dogs should be healthy- if they get hip dipspalsias down the road it's because their owners didn't feed them ol-roy like I told them and made them walk instead of carrying them in the purse I provide.

I breed my female every time she comes into heat- why wouldn't I get the most of her before she goes into menopause? When does that happen again? First breeding at 6 months- duh! And she is too old to breed when she stops going into heat- I just wish someone would tell me when that is again.

ALL MY DOGS NEED TO DO IS BE CUTE!

IF THEY HAVE THE $2000 for my dogs then they must be good hardworking people. People send me the monies- I shup the puppies. I'll always take my pups back if the buyr can find me again (I move alot as they instate stupid laws about how I can breed in each state). I can resell them if they are still young and cute and use them as breeders if they are not.

People keep wanting them so they must be of a good standard right?

tsk tsk JR- why would you want poor Holly banned? Who would tell people how to breed their minicavabugpoos then?
Plus she'll never get banned- only 'bad' people like St. Lady get banned for giving 'bad' answers. People who get banned deserve it so she'll never get banned (sarcasm)

I could see myself getting behind the development of a new breed if there's a proven NEED for it (but really, isn't there a dog out there for just about everything someone would NEED a dog for?) AND if the breeders carried out genetic testing, worked toward a very specific breed standard, and all those other things that REPUTABLE breeders do.

I struggle with this type of question as I own a Silken Windhound.
Stud book is closed, they are now recognised in Slovenia so hopefully won't be long before UK follows.

She's only 14months old so way to young to breed yet, but I've had her MDR1 status checked, came back clear, if she had been a carrier or affected I would not consider breeding and would of had her spayed.
She WILL be hipscored, eye checked, heart checked and thyroid checked.
Anything that comes back with a negative result and she will NOT be bred from.
I will not have alitter unless I have a list of pre approved owners who have researched the Silkens and genuinely want one, not someone who sees it as a "designer breed".

We currently attempt agility, but my lack of fitness holds her back :-)
We have our first Lure coursing race next week.

For one if you are breeding "designer" dogs you are not acting like a responsible breeder in the first place. (you not really meaning you!)
People who do this are only in it for the money. Most of them could care less about who buys or health problems.
It's really sad.

I tried this type of question once. I didn't get ONE answer from the BYB's in here. Holly, Chimama and the others would come within a mile of this question.

I am curious to see what Holly's answers will be to these questions....

Will she come on with rational, clear answers detailing how she is a responsible breeder? That would certainly shut us up, wouldn't it?

Will she complain that we are mean to avoid proving her case?

Will she try to feed us a bunch of false answers, not realizing that those of us who are experienced will see right through them?

Or will she simply avoid this question all together?

I will watch with interest...

Great questions for any breeder or pet store that sells dogs or puppies to answer....

You have to give them time to do a search and actually find out what "health clearances" are and then which ones are required for their breeds.
Then they have to find out what "rally" is.

This question needs to be pull on the basis of it being too hard!!!! What do you expect from these people!!! Common sense??!!! LMFAO!!!!!!
