my friend became vegan but she doesnt eat alot to begin with. i know her from school and she did take lunch class but she never ate and when holiday season comes around and all the teachers give out candy she never eats it saying that it contains too many unhealthy things like high calories or something. another time during a drama studies party we could bring our own food and she brought in some vegetables like carrots but never ate anything saying that she was only going to get fat and that her nutritionist told her that she is overweight and cant eat anymore. i thought that was a little exaggerated but i noticed she barely eats and claims to be vegan. she has lost alot of weight ever since and she used to be 130 pounds, now she is about 110 and this was only about a month ago to two months ago i thought it was very unhealthy that a 16 year old girl who is 5 feet tall would lose so much weight. what advice should i give her? should i tell her to stop being vegan and eat some meat

Vegans can eat just as much, if not more than anybody else. I'm one of them. Yesterday for lunch, my husband and I went to a buffet. I probably had just as many full plates of food as my non-vegan husband, but we just chose different things.

It sounds to me as though she is just not eating and using the label "vegan" as an excuse, or even a cover. l was a big eater before my pregnancy, now, especailly at nine months, I'm constantly eating.

These are some of my favorite sites on vegan nutrition. Also, you can probably find more good stuff by simply searching "vegan nutrition".

I hope this helps.

Unfortunately, vegetarianism/veganism is often used to mask an eating disorder, and I'd have to say (as someone who has been both vegan AND anorexic at times) your friend has a problem. I would recommend going straight to the heart of the issue: talk to her mom or guardian and express your concerns as her friend.

yeah, beign a veegan isnt unhealthy in and of itself, but her self-image seems to be in trouble. veegans not only dont eat animal products, they also will not use animal products, so no leather belts or bags. they completely give up animal products in thier life.

like i said, i dont see a problem with being one, but i do feel she is having issues. you may try talking to her about it, and voicing your concerns. in the end, she will have to be the one to change though.

Sounds like she is annorexic, all the signs are there. Your friend needs some professional help. I would bring this to her parents attention.
