We were designed to go barefooted. You will need to tough out some of the hurt to build up callisus then you will be fine. Living in socks and shoes, our feet never toughen up.

That really depends what you are walking on. Barefoot on soft springy grass is just the best feeling for your feet. Barefoot on hard damp sand at the beach is terrific if you want to do a bit of power walking or jogging. Barefoot in a paddock of mud after a rainstorm is great fun, it is so squishy. Barefoot in the city on concrete is OK for your feet, so is walking down a bitumen road, although a bit rough on the soles. Unless I am going out, or it is cold, I never wear shoes. Your feet toughen up and you really don't notice that you are barefoot, well that is, unless it is the middle of summer and the ground is so hot it burns. In that case it is really good to get to a shady spot real quick.

Growing up in Texas, I spent a lot of time barefoot - outside. It was too hot for shoes. I built up some tough skin on the bottom of my feet.
I moved to Utah later and for the cold weather, always had shoes on, even in the summer. My feet turned soft.

Yes! I've gone barefoot well over ten years and I never have sore feet, it's much more comfortable than the best shoes can ever be.

yes, although it depends on what you're walking on. obviously hot asphalt/sharp rocks are going to burn and scrape your feet, but walking on many other surfaces is fine, especially when you build up callouses on the bottom of your feet
