yep, exactly.. the PS2 memory card has no place in the PS3.. so the adapter (basically made by Sony to get more money instead of just putting a slot for it in the PS3) is needed to plug the PS2 memory card into the PS3

Oh yes they work with them.. it is really a simple Memory Card Reader to USB lead. And every PS3 can use them except well the others are right on one point. The new PS3' s can't play PS2 games anyway. They lack the hardware.. the specific PS2 CPU and GPU. And without those..

It's very easy. All it is, is a little box that connects to the USB cable you use to charge ur controller.
Then you go to the Saved game area on the PS3 and copy over the data. You can have as many memery cards as you want saved onto your system but you can only assign 2 cards at a time to slots.
You HAVE to have this addapter because there is no slot on the PS3 for the card. The adapter doesn't cost much at all. and if your friends have a PS3, they can use it too, or have them buy it and you use thiers. I bought mine and let 5 others I know use it.

Like the other guys said, yes you need the adapter to play saved PS2 games on the PS3.

Basically what it does is copy your PS2 memory card data and PS1 memory card data to the hard drive and you can have multiple memory cards saved onto the harddrive at one time. Right now I have 4 PS2 memory cards and 2 PS1 memory cards saved onto my harddrive.

Yes. You have to have it. If you have a memory card for the PS2 and you want to utilize it on the PS3, you MUST have it. Believe me, I also felt screwed when I realized it....lol
