I got my baby shower invitations at Dollar General. They were adorable & only cost $1 for 8 of them. That's way cheaper than anywhere else. You can also get some really cute decorations at Dollar Tree if you have one in your area.

You should not be asking for ANYTHING on the invitation. A baby shower is traditionally a gift giving event, as well as games and a celebration of the new arrival, it's in no means a request to provide for your child. I had a baby shower recently, and got so much stuff that all we have had to buy for our son is a car seat. I didn't ask for a THING. You shouldn't either!

Do you have a program on your computer that you can make up invitations on? They can come out looking just as nice (maybe even better since you get to personalize them!), and are inexpensive to make. Just buy some nicer paper.
The graphics may be limited on the program, but you always have the option of putting your own photos, clipart, or other images you may have found that you like, on the invitations.
And have you checked out party stores or even E-bay for decorations? I know on E-bay you can find good deals for baby shower decorations. My grandmother and I used E-bay to buy decorations for a baby shower before.

Make your own invites on your computer. An office supply store has invitation type paper. You can buy 100 sheets for about $12. If you do 1/2 sheet invites you can get 200 out of it. Office supply also has nice envelopes for the invites about $6.

why not make your own? i made my own wedding invitations as well as shower invitations for a friend last year. they have baby related invitation paper at office supply stores that comes with envelopes and i just found a cute little invitation poem and printed it with a cute font. it cost very little and turned out better than some generic invite.
here are two example poems you could use:
bottles, booties, diapers, pins, this is where the fun begins. baby _______ is on the way. let's celebrate before the big day!
or
bottles, bibs, blankets and booties. diapers, late nights, and parental duties. it's almost time for the glorious hour come celebrate with us at _______________.

Wal-mart does in the stationary department and in the craft department. Be creative and you can put together a cheap, fun baby shower! Good luck!
