I am a Christian, and I agree that a lot of Christians (especially on boards like this) can sound pretty hateful and intolerant. I don't like to bash anybody. I think the reason that Christians are so ready to attack other religions is because in Christianity, people are supposed to have a responsibility to spread the word of God and the story of Jesus... you know, conversion. It's sort of an essential part of Christianity. But Christians are not perfect people, and a lot of people don't know how to go about doing that. I sure don't. I don't believe that bashing other people's religions is the way to go about it. Jesus showed love to everyone, regardless of who they were or what they believed. I personally like to hear about what other people believe... just because I'm a Christian doesn't mean I couldn't be friends with someone who was a Muslim or Atheist.

I actually live in a country (and a suburb) where I experience more daily interaction with Muslims than with Christians. Not too many Fundies in Australia see, but there are a lot of refugees and immigrants from the Islamic World. And yet, no Muslim person has ever knocked on my door at an uncivilisedly early hour on the weekend and tried to tell me I am going to hell unless I mend my ways. This despite the fact that I live less than half a kilometre away from a mosque and two kilometres away from a Prayer House. I also have a Hindu Temple near me and Buddhist one. And I do believe the lady up the road is a Satanist. But none of these people are trying to convert me. It's still evenly divided between the JW's around the corner and the Pentecostals up the road...both of whom stubbornly refuse to respect my repeated requests for them to shut the f*ck up and pi$$ the f*ck off. I leave alone those who do the same for me.

I am a Christian (although I hate to admit that I haven't been to church in quite a long time), however, I do still have my beliefs.
We are taught that there is only right and wrong, yes or no, black or white. It's not hate that we preach it's what we believe to be the truth.
We are taught that sin is wrong and we preach about the evils of sin. The problem is that we forget that everyone is a sinner. And no one sin is worse than any other sin (with the exception of blasphemy). I agree that we as Christians need to keep an open mind and not throw stones! But, that doesn't mean that we need to change our beliefs to make others happy.

I am a Christian and I don't believe anyone should judge anyone else, The bible says how can you pull a speck out of someone Else's eye when you have a plank in your own eye. If some one else is judging another they better make sure that there rite with God and the way they behave, but you have to remember no one is perfect. I am sorry you had to go threw that, I know how you feel cuz I get attacked for being a Christian, and that's okay cuz I know were my heart is.

I understand exactly what you are saying.
I am a Christian and think I am pretty blessed to have grown up in a place like Seattle. In Seattle we are very tolerant of everyone and everything. I have learned that it is not my job to judge others but to do what Jesus preached and love others. I have many friends that are atheist. They do not try and convert me and I do not try and convert them - we accept each other.
I know that many Christians just suck and are waaay worse than most of the people out there and it just makes me sick.
Have Hope - we're not all horrible!
**EDIT: I love how so many people that answering this forum are claiming to be Christians and completely proving the point that Christians are mean and less tolerant.

Tolerance. What a concept. I am very intolerant of your intolerance of my intolerance.
Change tolerance for intolerance for any in the above statement and it makes the same point.
Tolerance is not now nor has it ever been a Biblical principle. That's not a license to be insulting, rude, degrading, or cruel to people who are different...wish more Christians could figure that out.

The worse is Atheists the speak of tolerant where in fact , they are the most intolerant people I ever know. Intolerant to others who do not agree to their view. The worse of the worse are the Atheists. You see them here manifesting their deeds all the time. Are you blind ? Can't you see? - the people who accuse others are the most guilty of all!

Tolerance does not in any way imply agreement. Unfortunately, there are Christians who attack other belief systems instead of doing as is taught in the Bible. Christians are to share their faith, but attacking others is not anywhere in the New Testament. Christians do not claim to be perfect or superhuman. Looking at the posts, I see individuals from all belief systems who opt to be nasty when they disagree. I also see those who opt to offer their perspective without insulting others. I am a Christian, and it is my desire to share my faith and to speak in love. I also have emotions and I can get irritable and angry at times. Self-control is a work in progress.

To have a different view point and belief is fine. Jesus did teach us to love and overcome hate with love. Have you read the Qu'ran? watched CNN on Gods warriors or listened to their radical beliefs especially the Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
Here is an article on what he said:
WASHINGTON, July 9 (UPI) — Whether Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said he wants to wipe Israel off the map is still contested, even by anti-mullah Iranian Americans. But that he wants to wipe out the Jewish state, there can be no doubt. As he completes his visits to every Iranian town, the collection of his pronouncements is edifying reading.
Culled from a wide variety of sources, ranging from the London Daily Telegraph, to the Suddeutsche Zeitung Online, to France’s Le Monde and Liberation, Ahmadinejad spells out the target and the strategy:
– This regime (Israel) will one day disappear.
– The Zionist regime is a rotten tree that will be blown away by one storm.
– The countdown for the destruction of Israel has begun.
– Zionists are the personification of Satan.
– In the case of any unwise move by the fake regime of Israel, Iran’s response will be so destructive and quick that the regime will regret its move forever.
– The West invented the myth of the massacre of the Jews (in World War II) and placed it above Allah, religions and prophets.
Ahmadinejad’s strategic recipe:
– We don’t shy away from declaring that Islam is ready to rule the world.
– The wave of the Islamist revolution will soon reach the entire world.
– Our revolution’s main mission is to pave the way for the reappearance pf the 12th Imam, the Mahdi (a 5-year-old boy who vanished 1,100 years ago and who will lead the world into an era of peace and prosperity, but not before the planet is convulsed by death and destruction).
– Soon Islam will become the dominating force in the world, occupying first place in the number of followers among all other religions.
– Is there a craft more beautiful, more sublime, more divine, than the craft of giving yourself to martyrdom and becoming holy? Do not doubt Allah will prevail, and Islam will conquer mountaintops of the entire world.
– Iran can recruit hundreds of suicide bombers a day. Suicide is an invincible weapon. Suicide bombers in this land showed us the way, and they enlighten our future.
– The will to commit suicide is one of the best ways of life.
– By the grace of Allah we will be a nuclear power and Iran does not give a damn about (IAEA) demands (to freeze enrichment of nuclear fuel).
– Iran does not give a damn about resolutions.
this is just part of it.
Christians are mocked everyday and cartoons of christian leaders are put in newspapers and do we riot? no but the Muslims did over several cartoons of Mohammed cartoons. and there has been other riots over things said about Islam.
As chritians we are to love them that is Gods command love as I have loved, but we are humans also and sometimes we slip and fall. so please don't judge us by our faith but judge us as all are judged, equal.
because we are christians and follow Jesus doesnt mean that we are better or have some special ability not to sin. We are all the same only difference is that we have decided to accept Gods free gift of salvation. Its free to all who ask.

I'm a Christian but I am very tolerant... I don't hate anyone based on what their religion is... I may not agree with everything, but people have the right to believe what they want. Christianity tells us to love everyone... And anyone that shuns another human because of their religion isn't living the way they are supposed to.
