The gospel proclaimed to the world by the Latter-day Saints is the gospel of Jesus Christ as restored to the earth in this dispensation and is for the redemption of all mankind. The Lord himself has revealed what is essential for the salvation and exaltation of his children. One of these essentials is that temples are to be erected for the performance of ordinances that cannot be performed in any other place.

When this is explained to people from all over the world who come and look at our temples, the question these people most frequently ask is, what are the ordinances that are performed in temples?

In response, we often first explain the ordinance known as baptism for the dead. Therefore it is the most recognized and well-known of the temple ordinances. Knowledge does not reduce sacredness. Sacred simply means something has been dedicated to or set apart for the worship of a deity, is worthy of religious veneration, or is made or declared holy.

In the ordinances of the temple, the foundations of the eternal family are sealed in place. The Church has the responsibility—and the authority—to preserve and protect the family as the foundation of society. This includes endowments and celestial marriages.

All things done in the temple are sacred. It is a holy place. Baptism, whether for the living or the dead, is a sacred ordinance that Jesus taught everyone to do by His own example. I'd say that's a sacred thing.

Meatbot: There is alot of our doctrine that is not biblical. That's the whole point of continuing revelation through living prophets. You just don't seem to be getting it....

Biblical? That's 2000 years old God is alive today and speaking to prophets.
As for baptism 4 the dead, everyone needs to get baptized.
The endowment ceremony is a sacred ritual not only preparing a deceased person to progress in heaven, but also reminding the person who is being the one in proxy for that person the blessings he or she gets by keeping the covenants they make.
The Celestial marriage ceremony the same way.

My guess is that everything done in the temples are sacred. Why would baptism be a big secret? Maybe you should join the Mormons and find out yourself.

Beta: So you can probably make the Masonic stuff public then since it's not biblical.

Beta: So if a living prophet says his word cannot be modifed, is he right? I ask because that's exactly what your prophets have done, and they were overruled by more recent ones.
