I hate stupid people. Regardless of what one of the previous answers said, your tattoo is not infected. Do no put Vaseline or neosporin on the tattoo. After one week you are supposed to switch from whatever your artist told you to apply (hopefully it was something like A&D, tattoo foam or goo, or bacitracin) to an unscented lotion. Do not put baby oil or aloe on your tattoo. Peeling is the natural healing process of a tattoo. Your tattoo is an open wound and what is peeling is the scab over the top. Do not pick it otherwise you'll scar and the tattoo will probably end up looking like crap. As far as the itching goes, if the lotion doesn't help, try gently patting it. After the scabs go away you can gently rub it if the itching still occurs. Good luck!

After two weeks, the ink will not (or SHOULD not) smear If it does, then there's a problem! At this point, now that the tattoo has finished peeling, using an unscented locion, like Curel or Lubriderm, is perfectly fine. I had my tat done a month ago and I still put lotion on to keep the skin smooth. Your best bet really, is to follow the instructions your artist gave to you, and ONLY those instructions. If you have questions on what to do/not to do...give them a call.

a nice slob of baby lotion moisterising stuff.....brilliant
but NOT vaseline.....blocks it all up.......u shud keep it moisterised and baby moisteriser has no crap in it but dont use baby oil. wow so many answers, you'd be best to go with the ppl who are tattoo artists or go to your tattoo parlour wher u got it done and ask, if they were good then they shud provide after care or advise. dont listen to the infected answer...what a dumb thing to say...all tattoos itch at some point so smack it but do not pick the scab and try not to let clothes or bed stuff scrape on the tattoo; easier said than done though lol :o) good luck and enjoy caring for it it's the funnest thing i find

you've gotten a few good answers here like the unscented lotion etc etc.
unfortunately alot of people have absolutely NO FRIGGIN CLUE about the process of healing a tattoo. yes.... smacking it helps i know it did for all 9 of mine, however you need to moisturize it in order for the color to stay put so that was really good advice on smacking it.
baby oil? not so much.... you try getting a baby oil stain out of clothes.
vaseline? cmon now.. do you HAVE any tattoos? vaseline by nature blocks air from hitting the tattoo which is EXTREMELY bad. it needs to breathe and vaseline does not allow that. that's why you use vaseline on lips to prevent chapped lips... not on tattoos.
seriously.
stick with the answers of a moisturizing lotion that has no dyes or scents to them. if you really must.. use neosporin but it's a waste of money when all you wanna do is moisturize it because the lack of moisture is what makes it itch.
ps - dont pick at it, it's a good way to suck the color out :oP
