He was a great movie director, but I didn't agree with his views in this movie...He depicted Turkey in the twenties, but he said also some wrong things...
He was born Turkish, but actually he was Greek, and finally he became American...Anyway he was a great artist of Hollywood.

I have witnessed that if you are an expat Turkish Armenian or Turkish Jew, you have to subscribe to the views of certain circles to be accepted.

I am not saying those weren't Kazan's sincere ideas. I am only saying that he didn't have any other option.

Besides, that was how he imagined things. Others who have the opposite view have the right tell other stories, based on their own imaginations. But completely independent of the merits of the work, whether it will be considered a "work of art" by those same circles is entirely a different matter.

yes, i love this movie. i have only seen it a few times as i cant find it on DVD. it is about a Greek boy who, after witnessing the Armenians being slaughtered by the Turks, is sent to Istanbul to raise money to help his family get to safety before the Turks start slaughtering the Greeks too. beautiful, brilliant and very touching.

edit: i came back to see what others had to say about "America, America" and i dont get why there are thumbs downs for the comments. i dont think anyone has said anything incorrect or offensive in this thread. if you dont like the movie speak up and write a comment.
