For example, Christians will listen to music like Twila Paris rather than the song Usher or Nelly. They don't drink and suppress their natural human desires.

I don't deprive myself of anything. I listen to Rush, Dream Theater, Blues whatever I like. I have also been known to tip a few and I even like sex. And I'm a Christian. I have more fun than anyone I know.

Now, how do you like them apples!

Non-Christian answering here. Btw, who is Twila Paris? I've never heard of her.

There are those of us (Believers, not just Christians) who do listen to popular music. I enjoy Christina Aguilera. However, if something is offensive, then we won't buy the cd. It's that simple. I find Nelly's "Hot In Herre" to be offensive, so I won't buy the cd. I like the music, very much in fact, but I do not the lyrics. For whatever reason, if a person doesn't like a song, they don't have to listen to it.

As for "natural urges." Do you mean like when people say to "let nature take its course?" When i say no to sex because I'm not married, or no to alcohol, I letting nature take its course. You see, it is completely natural for human beings to think, to question, to ponder. The mind is constantly working. It is our nature to reason, it separates us from the other animals. Therefore, to think first before acting - or not - to be human, that letting nature take its course.

Not meaning to sound rude, but what's it to you? If a person censors what they listen to, read, watch, does, etc, and if its not infringing upon your rights, then what's the big deal? I remember when I became a Baha'i, I gave up alcohol, because all intoxicants are forbidden by God to Baha'is. Some people had the hardest time with that, and it was ridiculous. I didn't tell them they couldn't drink, not at all. It was personal choice, yet others had a problem with it. Silly.

Live and let live.

I suppose you are under the impression that Christian people don't sin and that they are all perfect. You would be wrong. Being a Christian is about bettering yourself, and I have never met one who was perfect. Also, as a Christian, I do not listen to that crap whoever you were talking about, Twila something. There are messages about God in everyday music and sometimes the artist doesn't even know that what they are searching for is God. Anyway, Audioslave is a good example of "Christian" music I listen to.

LIKE A STONE

On a cobweb afternoon
In a room full of emptiness
By a freeway I confess
I was lost in the pages
Of a book full of death
Reading how we'll die alone
And if we're good we'll lay to rest
Anywhere we want to go

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

On my deathbed I will pray
To the gods and the angels
Like a pagan to anyone
Who will take me to heaven
To a place I recall
I was there so long ago
The sky was bruised
The wine was bled
And there you led me on

(chorus)
In your house I long to be
Room by room patiently
I'll wait for you there
Like a stone
I'll wait for you there
Alone

And on I read
Until the day was gone
And I sat in regret
Of all the things I've done
For all that I've blessed
And all that I've wronged
In dreams until my death
I will wander on

I AM THE HIGHWAY

Pearls and swine bereft of me
Long and weary my road has been
I was lost in the cities
Alone in the hills
No sorrow or pity for leaving I feel

(chorus)
I am not your rolling wheels
I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the sky

Friends and liars don't wait for me
I'll get on all by myself
I put millions of miles
Under my heels
And still too close to you
I feel

(chorus)
I am not your rolling wheels
I am the highway
I am not your carpet ride
I am the sky
I am not your blowing wind
I am the lightning
I am not your autumn moon
I am the night

You're making sweeping statements.
I believe in Yeshua. I've never even heard of Twila Paris.
I listen to Ween, Cake, Tenacious D etc...
I drink wine, mixed drinks, beer. Not every day and not until I'm so sloshed I can't walk, but with a nice dinner, or at a party, I'll have a coctail.
While I don't indulge in EVERY desire I have (I'm selective who I sleep with, which I believe MOST women wouldn't sleep with any man who randomly compliments her)
I could turn the tide and say "Why do you ALWAYS make sweeping generalizations of various people? WHY would you ONLY LISTEN to NELLY?"
Just because I believe in, and worship Yeshua does not me I am deprived of anything. I use common sense in making decisions.
I understand that I am different than a lot of conservative Christians, however, I would NEVER beat them up for their musical/dress/drink choices. That's THEIR choice.
They don't see themselves themselves as deprived, so they are not. Just because they listen to different musical artists than you.
What does bother me is when people of any religion try to push their beliefs off onto anyone else. HOWEVER, I am STILL NEVER rude to them. They are doing what they feel is right in their heart.
I cannot beat up anyone about that.

Do you deprive yourself of anything at all for the sake of something or someone more important?
I have not felt deprived. I have a very rich life although I am not wealthy. (consider Matthew 19:29)
BTW, I don't even know who Twila Paris is. I am a music lover but I have never heard of the song you mentioned.

ok where did you get this nonsense?

I'm a Christian and I have an occasional drink; I don't get drunk because I don't like it and I think it makes one look cheap but that is my personal feelings. And we don't suppress our natural human desires. And who is Twila Paris never herd of any of the above; including Usher and Nelly.

But I can say I don't like crussing and degrading music like beating up your mom and sister and having sex with your mom, or having affairs and or anything else that is immoral.

You need to stop worrying about what Christians do or don't do and get a life.

But most christians don't deprive themselves of so many things in life. All the christians i know live happy lives, and they do listen to Nelly, Usher ect. I even know some that listen to Slipknot. Christians are always stereotyped ( Take Ned Flanders for example) People seem to ignorant to the fact that most christians are people that you'de see on a day to day bassis. Hardcore Christians don't even depreive things from themselves, they just stick to the commandments.

I have a wonderful life n I son't listen to usher or any of that type of music nor do i drink smoke or anything. I don't need that stuff to make me happy because i know that i have God in my life. I can't have a good relatonship with Christ if i am living that kind of life i am not trying to say that i am perfect because nobody is perfect we all fall short of God glory sometimes. n another thing i don't know who is twila Paris i never heard of her.

Deprive ourselves? Of what...getting drunk and losing self-control/acting wild, hangovers, dui's, single & worrying about getting pregnant, all the std's going around...thanks but no thanks. I tried a little drinking when I was younger but didn't like the taste, so why would you ridicule someone who doesn't like to drink? And how do you know what a Christian's private sex life even is about? You don't have any idea. But I'm not going to get into that.

Perhaps you don't know many Christians, because speaking as one, God has blessed me with a great life, a wonderful husband and family, lots of fun, etc., so why would I want trade all that for something less than what I have?

Twila Paris, lol.
Not that there's anything wrong with that!

Try Lacrae, KJ-52 or Grits.

I don't drink because I choose not to. The Bible says getting drunk is wrong (not drinking per se). Which is good advice for anyone.

And if by "natural human desires." you mean sex I will only say that my husband and I suppress nothing.

Really?? I don't recall being deprived of anything except time to get it all done in a day....haha...

I listen to all kinds of music; Beethoven, Blue Grass, C&W,Big Bands, Rock, Hip hop...have no use for rap or head banger...

I have no interest in drinking and drugging....I don't see the FUN in it at all....

Sleeping around with every pair of pants that walks by is really stupid.....that is not natural human desire...that is playing russian roulette with STD'S, lack of self respect, and in many areas setting yourself up to be the next item at the morgue..

And we all remember the high school tramp and the sleep around guy....where are they today.....

It is common sense that Christians and many other people apply to their lives....
