The default margin settings for Word up through version 2003 were 1.25" left and right, 1" top and bottom.

There are no manual tabs set in Word so the automatic default tabs of every 1/2" will apply if you clear all tabs.

Default line spacing is single space with no space after or before for paragraphs. (this changed in Office 2007). No first line indents.

Default font has been Times New Roman, 12 point, which has been changed in Office 2007 also.

Go to File, Page setup/Margins and press the Default button in the bottom to the left. I don´t have the default settings any more myself, so I can´t do as you are saying.. And I think that you can go to View/ Normal to get rid of the L´s.

I have 2002 (XP) and I've probably changed mine, but 1" top and bottom and 1 1/2" left and right seems right. I don't think there are any default tabs.

Hope that helps somewhat.

You will have to rename the normal template for ms word. Go to c:\documents and settings\YourUsername\application data\microsoft\templates and rename the Normal.dot to Oldnormal.dot or Normaldot.old. Go to support.microsoft.com and confirm. Also you can start office in "safe mode"
