My son is 2 and has been quite picky lately at dinner. I need to get more veggies and meat into him. He will eat fruit all day if I let him and he doesn't eat junk food. He just really REALLY likes carbs! He will eat his pasta or potato and bread and then not anything else.

Any foods/recipes that your toddler loves? I am primarily interested in meats and veggies but am also open to other ideas.

I am also going to try to give him his dinner plate with no carbs and see what he eats of that first and then give him a small portion of our starch a few minutes later. Has anyone else done this? Did it help?

Thanks!!

How about putting peanut butter on the bread, for protein and fat.

Thankfully both of my sons eat a balanced diet. As for meats, how about chicken parm or even a hamburger made out of ground turkey?

Veggies, we usually by the cans, because lately the grocery store has been lacking in produce. But maybe you could give him a potato with broccoli mixed in it? Or veggies with something to dip them in, whether that be cheese or ranch dressing.

Good luck hun!

Have you tried giving your son some kind of condiment to dip veggies in? My kid, he loves to dip carrot sticks, celery, whatever into a light, fat-free ranch dressing. He'll eat anything as long as there's something to dip it into! Also, you can try mixing veggies into pasta sauce. I've also done this with mushrooms and zuchinni before. He has no idea they're even in there! Hope that helps.

How about butternut squash? It's a vegetable with lots of good nutrients, it's sweet and smooshy like mash potatoes. It is also easy to make.

For meats, since your son likes fruits, have you tried taking ground turkey and mixing it with cooked apples, or chicken-apple or chicken apricot. Try to make the meats really soft.

My son LOVES pasta. He will eat mac and cheese with peas and tuna fish in it (It is actually really good that way). My mom always adds zuccini to her spaghetti sauce. You can't taste it, but it is added veggies. Make him a tuna sandwich or a grilled cheese and tomato soup. Make a homemade veggie beef soup in the crockpot and freeze the leftovers in small containers for his lunches.

try making zuchini bread, smash squash/zuchini/broccoli into rice and add velveeta. My son did not eat meat until he was 2 - you find other proteins. Look into beans, they're small and fun to play with - let him play with his food a little, especially if it gets him to eat it - peas are always FUN too!

i sneak good veggies like broccoli and peppers and things onto pizza and my kids don't even know the difference ... that should help with veggies. also, my kids love dipping broccoli into ranch dressing, they call it "snow on the trees". my kids won't eat much meat at dinner time either, just cold cuts. i put sliced turkey on their grilled cheese sandwich and they don't even know.
