Like other's have said you can get a great view from the Peak, which allows you to see the entire harbour. The promenade on the Tsim Sha Tsui side is probably the best free place to view the skyline on the island side, just stay to your right when you get off the Star Ferry and they also have music there for the 8:00 PM Festival of Lights show. If you want to have a drink, go to the lobby of the Inter-Continental Hotel, they have huge panoramic windows with a great view of the harbour, or go there even if you don't want to buy a drink. And just about any of the hotels near the harbour will have bars or restaurants that overlook the harbour, many with views from the upper floors. You also can't beat the views you get riding the Star or Wanchai ferries. Have fun.

Sure, On the Kowloon side next to the ferry depot there is the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Hong Kong Museum of Space and the Hong Kong Cultural Center behind these buildings is a nice walkway that abuts the channel that separates Kowloon from Hong Kong. There are also seating areas for people to look across to Hong Kong Island.

On Hong Kong Island there is the area behind the Hong Kong Convention Center. You can go to the top of Victoria Peak and see the whole channel between Hong Kong Island and the mainland.

Enjoy and good luck

You can go to the Peak, the top of HK and see the view down below. Or you can just go to the Tsim Sha Tsui and check out the harbour.

Take the ferry, like Star Ferry. You are actually floating on the harbour...
