i have glaucoma for the last 3 years.i am using drops under the supervision of oncologist .i want to know if i play word games for 1or 2 hours a day ,will that affect my eyes in future?i am very much interested in playing word games in my computer(only word games).ido not find any difficultyin playing except for a normal head ache which is common to all.it will vanish within no time .i want to know whether partial voracious reading or playing computer games is going to affect my eyes in future.i am 53 now .my children are away.&my husband is honest in his work.when i play or read i dont expect anybody.i find the time useful &at the sametime relaxing.so somebody advise me with their useful tips.

The number 1 precaution against glaucoma is regular check ups. Secondly, if you are on drops for glaucoma its important that you use them as directed. Studies have actually shown that alot of people use their drops as directed largely in the month leading up to an appoitment with the doctor and just after... as if they are just trying to keep the doctor happy!!
As far as the word games are concerned, play away. These will have no effect towards your eyes...and will definately not cause any long term damage.

My husband was born with glaucoma in both eyes, You can do everything absolutely normal that anyone else could with just a couple of exceptions... Talk with your doctor or pharmacist when wanting to take medications with anti-histamine in them... All drugs will give a warning on the package and if it says consult your doctor before taking if you have glaucoma,,,, then do it!! =) you can take this medicine but not for a prolonged period of time... Also your eye drops are what keeps the pressure down on your optic nerve and stops further damage, (that is irreversable). Your eye drops are your key to healthy eyes!! And always go to your doctor appointments to continue checkups. You can spend all the time on a computer that you want!! =) Have a great day!!

My first question is, why is the oncologist managing your Glaucoma? Your Ophthalmologist should be doing that, not your cancer doctor. They both should be monitoring your meds to see if there are any you are taking that are conflicting. Glaucoma is usually not affected by computer use or reading. You need to see your doctor that is managing your glaucoma regularly and you need to make sure that it is and eye specialist that is seeing you. If you do see your oncologist for this you might want to ask for a referral to a Glaucoma specializing Ophthalmologist! Good luck~!

Computer use will have no effect on your eyes. If you have dry eye it might be aggravated but you can control that with artificial tears. Computer use, no matter how many hours, will not affect glaucoma.
The single most important thing you can do to protect your eyes is to not smoke.

Just keep up the treatment that your oncologist tells you to do.
Watch for changes in vision or Pain ,decreased vision can occur, with restricted eye movements and double vision etc
Rest the eyes regularly short naps or close eyes to rest them regularly, bathing eyes can help and relaxing, Try a screen filter on your computer as this can cut the brightness down a lot, as bright light can cause pain or put undue stress on the eyes.And try to cut stress, don`t worry or panic
But enjoy the sight you have now and live life to the full as we never know for how long we will be able to.

An oncologist is not who should be caring for your eyes . You may want to check into this.
Well you can go to your Office Depot and or check online officedepot.com and get you a standard antiglare computer filter to put over you monitor to minimize eye strain and block up to 99.9 e-field radiation. 3M name brand will work and will cost from $23-$65 dollars.

The only one that I know is anti-histamines are contra-indicated in glaucoma. Anti-histamines are contained in travel-sickness medicines, anti-hay fever medicines, and sleeping-aid. Make sure you ask your pharmacist before you buy any over-the-counter medicines.

its probably going to strain your eyes but i guess playing 1 to 2 hours would not hurt..
