We recently had my fiance's cat shaved because of heavy matting. His is a maincoon with long beautiful fur. About how long do you think it will take for his fur to grow at least to a length he doesnt feel naked? He was shaved to the skin in some spots but mostly he is buzzed. So it is very short. His fur in total legth (grown out) would approx. be maybe 4 to 5 inches. Any one able to help?

Hi, cats fur can grow quite quickly. When my cat had to have her head shaved she looked awful for about a week but gradually the fur came back and within anouther 2 weeks she was almost back to normal.
Obviously if the cat has long fur noramally then it will take longer to grow back to it's original length, but within a couple of weeks your cat should at least be partially covered again.
I have written a page about matted fur and grooming, it might help with a few pointers for the future http://www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-hair.html
Hope this helps :)

Our shorthair & semi-long hair cats have had parts shaved for blood draws or operations, and I've noticed that the first 2 weeks barely show any hair growth, but by the end of a month it's about 1/2" long. By the end of two months you can't even tell where it was shaved. I think by 2 1/2 even a longhair cat would be pretty well grown back in full length.

I shaved my medium haired cat with a surgical cut-to the skin. It took her hair about a month for her to feel comfortable. It took 6 months for it to grow all the way back. Since your cat has longer hair the time may be a little less.
