...than defend herself and risk killing that person. She is a christian, and she says that if someone is stabbing her, and there is a chance for her to grab another knife and retaliate, she wouldn't do it for fear of committing murder and going to hell. She would lie there and let him kill her.

Is she crazy or what?

Yes, she is not thinking straight......it is a natural instinct for humans and even animals to defend ourselves against danger and harm. For her to lie there and let him kill her without even putting up a fight is a form of suicide.

Well I can understand her point of view, (even though I am Christian and do not share the same opinion) however if she was actually put in that situation I'm sure she'd find it a lot harder to just lie back without defending herself seeing that we have an innate desire to survive and reproduce. I wouldn't say she was crazy she just has very strong beliefs. Religion and beliefs always have been and most likely probably always will cause conflict between people of opposing morals.

If the person is attacking her because she's a Christian, then (believe it or not), she's right: Jesus taught this. However, if she's being attacked randomly, she has every right to defend herself. There are no Scriptural prohibitions against defending yourself in this case. Have her read the Book of Acts and make a list of Paul's actions when he was persecuted. You'll see that he VIGOUROUSLY defended himself when persecuted outside of the provisions of Roman law; yet, he was docile when being persecuted due to his faith.

Also, she's ignoring a perfect pacifist option: she can always run away!

By the way, please explain to her that this would not be considered murder, which is defined as ending the life of an INNOCENT person.

For fear of becoming a murderer isn't right, but most Christians were pacifist all the way up until 1307 when the Roman Catholic Church declared war on heretics and killed them off. Then the protestants became unhappy with how liberal the Catholics were and started splitting off from RCC.

Those Christians that think that it's wrong to be a pacifist should be reminded that they worship Jesus who taught us to turn the other cheek and who went meekly to be sacrificed for them.

Some of us are still pacifist, you can't kill off a good idea.

Death is an untruth, so she is speaking of a way to be free of future karma. Life is eternal so why would killing ever be justified. The human mind is laying in wait to attack, manipulate, justify, and defend it's natural tendency to separate. I agree with your friend, yet she cannot say what she will do until she has to do it. She is not crazy but living in fantasy illusions of things not happening in the NOW is a little insane!

It seems to me that if you let someone kill you and do not try to fight for your own life that you are, in fact, commiting a kind of assisted suicide. If I remember correctly, suicide is an unforgivable sin, where as murder can be forgiven.

Personally I would fight just long enough to try to get away. I'm a pacifist, I don't like violence and would prefer not to hurt anyone else.

I don't think she's crazy, just uninformed. She should actually ask her priest or pastor what his take is on that. I think god should be forgiving enough to allow you to try to save your own life.

Difficult to say, you are not considered committing a murder unless you provoke the attack for her to start stabbing this guy without cause for self defense then that would be murder. For her to protect herself that would be common sense. I think maybe she should discuss with her preacher the bible and what God meant about committing a murder or "thou shalt not kill".

If she is a christian and worships the G-D of Israel, she is MORALLY OBLIGATED to defend herself and her family and all that are under her protection in her household.

Her Life is utterly sacred. Not so with the attacker. He's given up his rights by attempting to commit murder. There is no reason ever when under attack to willfully allow an enemy to take that Life.

Yes, I believe we are suppose to defend ourselves, our lives are worth defending, they are worth fighting to the death for and if you have to kill someone in self defense that is not murder in fact it is the opposite, it is saving a life. Suppose the attacker has killed hundreds or thousands and you fight them off and kill them, you not only have saved yourself but countless others. It is not murder and God would know this.

Does your friend think so very little of the life that God gave her? God would want her to defend to the death not just stand there looking stupid.

Sounds more that a bit extreme. Self-defense is NOT murder.

Also, it's a LOT easier to SAY what you "wouldn't do" if you're not in the situation.

Understand the concepts. Define the words.
