I have 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. My wheel size is P195/65R15. A friend of mine wants to give me two tires with rims but they are P195/60R15. I was wondering whether or not I should still be able to use the two new tires with the other tires I have on their already and will the size difference create any problems.

He had them because his wife had a 2002 Galant but got a new car after her bought the tires already. He also said I should put them in the front, but I didn't ask why and I don't know much about cars.

Any help would be great.

In tire sizes such as P195/65R15, all the letters and numbers mean something.
P means that it's a P-metric
195 is the width of the tire (metric in mm)
65 is the height of the sidewall (metric in mm)
R means that it's a radial tire
15 is the diameter of the wheel in inches (or rim as most people call them)

Since your normal tires have a 65mm sidewall, and the other tires have a 60mm sidewall, there is only a 5mm difference between the two (which is only slightly more than 1/2" overall).
I don't think there would be a problem with them, but then again, I'm not a tire expert.
The reason that he said to put them on the front, is that since they are not as "tall" as the others and therefore would fit and run better on the front.

If you don't feel comfortable taking his word for it, then go to your local tire dealer and ask them how much of a difference it would make doing that size substitution.

The tires will, for the main section paintings wonderful. the situation that includes my strategies is that whilst the studded tires on the front (stress) tires will somewhat furnish help to flow on slick surfaces, struggling with could properly be risky because of the fact the front could have staggering traction, the rear won't. this could actual reason the motor vehicle to spin around whilst attempting to stop with out delay on that individual same slick floor. My suggestion is 4 studded or no studded on a front wheel stress.

If your car has ABS the smaller tires will cause a malfunction in the ABS system. The computer will think that the tires are sliding because all for tire are not rotating at the same speed.

65 is the side wall height and since the side wall is shorter it will take more revolutions to go the same distance thus making your speedometer off a little.
the only difference would be if you put them on the front, since it is a front wheel drive car, when your speedometer reads 60mph you will actually be going 58mph. if you put them on the back your speedometer will still be correct. you should be able to use them its just up to you weather you want to put them on the front of back.

Funny - i thought the word for the rubber tube around the metal rim of the wheel was a 'tyre' not a tire.
Example of 'tire' I tire of people who cannot spell.
