bad combination? It just seems to me to be incredibly stupid not to use any type of birth control, especially today, when there is so many problems in the world and we are so overpopulated. Is the only reason for this rule to multiply the sheep?

death from above - why don't you check the facts? I never said anything about the highest population growth, don't put words in my mouth.

death from above - yes, they are sheep, they follow what someone (the pope) tells them blindly. Its that way with all religions, they don't look at the facts, just what their religious book says. So yes, they are sheep.

Daver - that argument goes both ways, they could have been all murders and rapists too. And if you think the world would be a better place with even more people, you are seriously mistaken. And using the pill is not murder, as you put it. And you really think following the church would be such a good idea? In the past following the church has ended up in wars against other religions just because they believed differently.

Yeah...well most Catholics couples don't have 15 kids, so you can bet that they use it anyhow.

Who said Catholics didn't use "any" birth control? Who ever said that was wrong. Catholics do not use ARTIFICIAL methods of birth control, where as natural forms of birth control ("regulation" being a better word to use) are encouraged by the Church.

Condoms? No. The pill? No. Surgical procedures (solely for the purpose of birth control)? No.

Natural forms of birth control, such as the monitoring of fertile cycles via personal observation, is a 99% effective technique in preventing pregnancy. My math isn't all that good by I do believe 99% is much better than the effectiveness percentage of, say, condoms and the pill; 70%.

Even better - how about abstinence? Abstinence is 100% guaranteed not to result in a pregnancy.

You'll probably tell me that abstinence is "unreasonable". All that does is prove your anecdotal "overpopulation" argument is a sham, a distraction from the fact too many people think sex is a civil right; a form of entertainment which one feels obligated to enjoy at one's own personal whim.

Have you thought of the possiblity that there might not be so many problems in the world if there weren't so many abortions? How many more scientists, how many more religious leaders, how many more other types of geniuses there could have been to help alleviate the "so many problems" IF ONLY ARTIFICIAL BIRTH CONTROL DIDN'T PREVENT THEM FROM BEING BORN!

You complain about the Church's position on allowing people to live. You seem to think some of them should be allowed to die. That's what the world has been doing for how long, and look where it's gotten us!

Perhaps, if more people followed the Church's moral leadership, this world would be a better place. There would be more people, happier, and far fewer problems.

ADDITION: You said, <>

Since when are people murdered on the basis of what they might become? Do you not believe in innocent until proven guilty? Besides, you cannot justify the murder of good unborn human beings simply because a putridly small percentage of them are apt to turn out bad. You logic is grossly misguided on this one.

You also said, <>

In other words, you want me to believe the murder of the unborn actually contributes to making the world a better place? Hardly! There's more to Catholic morality than what the Church has to say about artificial birth control. If more people took God's Law to heart, the world would be a profoundly better place, no matter how large or small the total population is.

<>

Sure it is. How do I know? It's possible, even likely that had one not used the pill, there would be another person in the world.

<>

Absolutely yes.

<>

Yes, people fought over religion - because at least one side suffered from a profound misunderstanding of their religion. Religion itself cannot be blamed for wars. People's misunderstanding of religion is to blame.

I would think you would be in favor of war, because war depopulates the earth and you are a big proponent of the earth being overcrowded. A nice big war would solve that problem in a hurry.

The catholic Church teaches that sex is a gift from God for the purpose of procreation AND to strengthen the bonds of matrimony. It is the uniting of two people in an act that can bring about new life from the love that is shared. Sex is both creative and unitive.

When a couple uses birth control, they are interfering with the procreative aspect of sex. This also interferes with the unitive aspect of sex. You are restricting the action of sex to bring forth new life from an act of love.

When contraception is used, making love is turned into just sex.

Ciber - the catholic church is one of the few mainline churches that has seen an increase in attendence. Churches such as Lutherans, Episcopaleans, and Baptists are seeing a decrease in numbers.

Cathilcism has its good points But there is much I don't agree with yet in my heart I am a catholic even though I go to a christian church. Actually I used to go to a catholic tennis club every wekend from about 14 to 22 years of age. I must say that I prefer the cathilic people I met there than all the other freaks from the christain places I have attended. Christians seem to believe that loving a person is to give them some revelation God has given them to give to you. I have not made any christian friends who I am still in contact with (except for a girl who no longer is a rpactising christian). I have been going back to church about six week ends after a lapse of about fifteen years, Still do not talk to anyone. God has me spiritually connected to people but I have not talked to them yet.Sad is not it?

I think the reason it's done is for the church to stay consistent with its pro-life teachings ... since some forms of contraception (most notably the Pill) can result in a fertilized egg being removed from a woman's body during her monthly cycle.

Not saying it's right or wrong, but I think that's why the church prohibits contraceptives.

Every sexual act between a husband and wife must be open to the transmission of life. No Person can separate the ends of marriage from one another - love and the generation of education of children - since they are so ordered by God himself

Well, I do not think that they really believe that people will adopt abstinence...

The most probable answer is that they see that the number of believers decreases day by day and so they think the only way to remedy this is to make catholic believers to proliferate...

the catholic religion has to adapt and change to today's lifestyle. It's not the 60's any more where they can use scare tactics.
If they were to change to today's society, the next generation would be more than likely to follow.

The prohibition on birth control is one of many blasphemies against the Lord Our God that Romans commit. They say that sex is only for procreation, which is a false doctrine, explicitly denied in the Holy Bible.

The only reason the Roman Bishop proscribed birth control was to expand his empire.
