When the believers in Jesus, that have repented from our sins, and live by His rules die:
* Our bodies die, our bodies are dead.
* Our spirits return to God.
* Our souls start experimenting the eternal life with Jesus.
When Jesus return to rapture the church, our souls will receive new bodies, not like the ones we have now that are subject to illness, aging, and decay.
Experimenting eternal life is not what the zombies movies called "living dead" or the horror movies shows as undead vampires.

using the Bible as our source for truth, let's first define what a "religious" person is:
"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world." - James 1:27.
Nothing wrong with that. (?)
When a child of God dies, their soul existance is carried away to heaven by angels:
"And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham's bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried" - Luke 16:22.
They will remain in heaven until the last day of earth, when the LORD Jesus Christ returns and their bodies are resurrected and given a brand new glorified body to go along with their soul:
"Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is." - 1 John 3:2.
On the other hand, when a person dies without the LORD Jesus Christ as their Saviour, their soul existance goes to a place of silence called Hades, to await the judgement on the last day:
"The dead praise not the LORD, neither any that go down into silence." - Psalm 115:17.
After an unsaved person dies, they will awaken from Hades to the judgement of God:
"And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.
And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.
And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.
And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.
And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire." - Revelation 20:11-15.

religious or not when people die their soul lives on and it never dies, it will be re-united to the body (one you got now) at the end of the world. they are neither undead or living dead. they are alive with Chirst. Dead is refering to those in hell.

First of all, undead or living dead are synonims.
Well most religious people -like catholics as me - believes in the inmortality of the soul, that is when a human beign dies, his or her soul stands and either goes to heaven or hell. That is matter of good or bad deeds.
For most religious people, living in sin is considered a undead like state.

I have come to the conclusion that we only stop living.
We don't die. We just stop being alive.
There is a subtle but distinct difference.
Religious people stop living just like non-religious people do, just with more friends around.
I do not think that we have a soul..

There is no form of life after death.
(Ecclesiastes 9:5-6) For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. 6Â Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinite in anything that has to be done under the sun.

Eternity has generally been considered as divisible into two parts; which have been termed eternity a parte ante, and eternity a parte post, -- that is, in plain English, that eternity which is past, and that eternity which is to come. And does there not seem to be an intimation of this distinction in the text? "Thou art God from everlasting:" -- Here is an expression of that eternity which is past: "To everlasting:" -- Here is an expression of that eternity which is to come. Perhaps, indeed, some may think it is not strictly proper to say, there is an eternity that is past. But the meaning is easily understood: We mean thereby duration which had no beginning; as by eternity to come, we mean that duration which will have no end.
3. It is God alone who (to use the exalted language of Scripture) "inhabiteth eternity," in both these senses. The great Creator alone (not any of his creatures) is "from everlasting to everlasting:" His duration alone, as it had no beginning, so it cannot have any end. On this consideration it is, that one speaks thus, in addressing Immanuel, God with us: --
Much alive as energy not body form.

There are no religious people .people are just people, there is no brand name for any human form. only the body dies the soul is just travelling .hence no one in this world is born and dead.we are just travelling .what ever happens to us in this birth is the reaction of last birth . it is the karma of the past life is what we have brought with us .. just be what you are never try to change for other people. live is fullof happiness we are born here only for happiness not for sorrows. Get into sprituallity and you will get answers for all the questions. sprituallity has nothing to do with any religion , its is the innerdepth knowledge of inner strength our SOUL.

You misunderstand death.
When an astronaut goes into space he wears a 'space suit' which enables him to function in that environment. When a scuba diver goes into the ocean, he wears a diving suit that enables him to function in that environment.
After some use, the astronaut's suit or diving suit becomes worn out and needs to be replaced.
Our death is very similar.
We are in our 'earth suit.' When it is worn out due to old age, or damaged due to injury, we simply discard it, and don't live in it any more.
