Im enlisting in the marine corps and i smoke 1 hit from a gravity bong about a week ago. Does the Marine Corps drug test when you go to your physical before signing up? Also, if i drink water like a mad man and work out till i pass out, how long will it take for that 1 hit to leave my system? Im 6'3" 200lbs 25% body fat
Thank you all in advance!

If you cant control yourself from doing anything illegal i don't suggest signing up. Every branch of the military does a drug test. And even when you are enlisted in the Marine Corps you will be piss tested randomly through your enlistment. You never know when they will drug test you.
What I don't understand is why you even took that chance? You want to join the Marines yet you took a hit from a bong??? Sort out your priorities and if its peer pressure get some knew friends

i was in the marine corps - depending on your unit, they drug test like crazy. I am almost positive they still drug test when you go to the MEPS. To tell you the truth, you can probably talk to your recruiter about it because he needs your enlistment to hit his quota, and would rather help you pass or delay the process for a few weeks than lose you because you popped positive for THC. A lot of guys I knew bought over the counter stuff to take they made them pass drug tests - its worth looking into. By the way, I worked for the SACO and was a legal clerk. The Corps has a zero tolerance for drugs and will administratively separate you with an other than honorable discharge if you do drugs on active duty. good luck.

All branches drug test. Think of the logic here......would you want your country's freedom being defended by stoned doped up drug heads? I agree with the poster that said that it is time to set your priorities straight. The only sure way to pass a drug test 100% and every time is to not do drugs. At the same time I would like to say thank you for having the Marine's on your mind to inlist. That is a brave decision within itself. Good luck to you

The Marine Corps does drug test. I suggest you be open and honest with your recruiter. He will help you in any way he can. I know many Marines that were in the same boat you are in, and got in just fine.

Good luck and Semper Fi! :)

Every branch of the Armed Forces conducts drug testing. If you really want to be a Marine, stop the dope now, and do it no more.

First off, yes all branches of the Service test for the presence of illegal drugs in your urine. When you go for your initial Military Physical, they draw off a LOT of samples of blood. One of those samples is tested for illegal drugs. If you eat poppy-seed muffins, you could test positive for heroin or opiate use, but these days, they take your physical shape in consideration as well. At 6' 3" 200 lbs, you dont fit the profile of the typical junkie, ya know?

Now, one hit from a bong is not going to make the tests sound alarms or anything, and if youre really paranoid about it, let them know they WILL find cannibis in your system. They don't care, they just don't like the idea of you trying to hide something from them.

Personal experience: I was int he Army from 1984 to 1989. I was in Military Intelligence, and to do your MOS in MI you have to have a Top Secret Security Clearance, known as a "TSSC" clearance. In order to get that clearance I was first "vetted" in the outfitting period before actual Basic Training started by two SAs from the FBI. Standard questions persuant to a background check. I confessed all: how many times I had smoked pot, how I had committed no crimes, there were no warrants for my arrest, etc. They weren't so much interested in the fact I had gotten high as they were to make sure I was telling them everything, because you can't be blackmailed into giving up secrets by an enemy if they don't have anything on you the Feds dont already know about, capice?

Also, THC (the thing in pot which makes you feel "high") lodges in fat cells. People who smoke pot for years, quit for years, then start losing weight either due to exercise or diet, will test positive for THC again, even if they haven't been NEAR pot for years. As the fat cells shrink, they release minute amounts of THC back into the bloodstream, not enough to get you "high" again, but enough to pop a positive urine test result.

If youre still worried, go to your local "Trails" or similiarly themed lheadshop and buy their herbal tea mix, which is guaranteed to flush all evidence of pot smoking from your system. But frankly I would just 'fess up and let them find whatever they find, just be honest, tell 'em hey man, I'm likely going to Iraq, and I;m likely not coming back, so I wanted to try pot once before I got serious and joined the Marines. They love ooh-rah, grunt stuff like that.

Yes they do test.

Frequently.

And they don't want enlistees who use drugs.

I don't want druggies handling weapons. I sincerely hope that your test results come back positive and they weed you out before you enlist so our country isn't depending on someone who uses drugs to defend it.

g-day!

Oh yeah, they test. Better cut back to zero. Working out will help. Time to figure your priorities. You can't be both a dope smoker and a Marine.

They don't just test you to enlist... they continue testing... throughout your enlistment.
