If Jesus was resurrected, then doesn't that mean he didn't really die? If he didn't die then he couldn't really have died for anyones sins - it wouldn't count would it?
and wouldn't a resurrection just cheapen the idea of martyrdom, cheapen the idea of self-sacrifice for the greater good?

some thoughts based on some of your answers:
if jesus was resurrected because of love from god, then does the fact that none of us will be resurrected when we die mean that god doesnt love anyone else?
why would jesus need to be resurrected to be with god? wouldn't simply dying be enough? does that not mean that heaven is unattainable for all of us who will not in fact be ressurected?

forget about the theological fluff, where is the hard physical evidence that any such thing ever happened or could ever happen? aside from the dubious evidence of a collection of stories that barely manage to agree with each other half the time, there isn't any evidence. there is also quite a bit of evidence and good reasons why people don't recover from being dead for three days. that's the main reason why i don't believe it.
but yeah, i could never figure out the accounting either. god writes off man's debt to him by making himself into a man, killing himself, and then unkilling himself. i suppose we're supposed to be so impressed by the show that we forget to ask how it all makes sense.

I so not know if Jesus was resurrected for real or not. He may have been in a death like coma for three days and came out of it. To do that in that day and age with no medical aid, well, that is a miracle.
I do believe that if God is all knowing and Jesus is God, then he knew he would be resurrected, making the entire "sacrifice" not quite a sacrifice then. It was just a "loan".
I do not believe that Jesus was the direct seed of God nor was he the only way to God for all people, but that is another bedtime story.

I heard someplace that maximum historic scholars have discovered truthfully no data by any potential that the resurrection of Jesus Christ ever happened not to show be called an historic certainty. I even have published a similar volume of information and data as you utilize to diminish back up your conjecture

Gee, am I the only Christian awake this early?
If you *really* want to research this, through the eyes of a Christian, then I invite you to read, in the New Testament:
1) The Gospel of John (4th book in the NT) which speaks obviously about Jesus and His diety.
2) Acts (the next book) and talks about the formation of the early church
3) Romans (the very next book), talks about our plight and *why* Jesus died for our sins and why that's important.
Do you know where you'll go when you die?
Read Romans.
In Christ,

I never liked the story of Christ's crucifixion. I saw Life of Brian but I refused to go see The Passion of the Christ because I already knew, and hated, the ending. (I've read the Bible a couple o' times too)
Really, I just can't buy the story of the ressurection. It smacks of Buffy and Angel and I can't take it seriously.

Jesus' body died but his spirit went to be with his Father. When He was resurrected He had a transformed eternal body. When a Christian dies, their spirit goes to be with Jesus and the Father. Everyone will be resurrected, some to eternal life and some to eternal damnation.
Revelation 20:10 and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
11 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. 13 And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done.
14 Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone's name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Well he was missing for many years. I guess if you can hide that long in a small town you just might be able to rise from the dead. Maybe a magic trick, maybe aliens that dropped him off beamed him up.

not at all
there was tremendous sacrifice in the sufferings endured in the betrayal, arrest, trial, beating, mockings and violent death which covered 24 hours of suffering. It tells us of a rich mercy of GOd that reaches out to us "for a good man one might die, but God demonstrates His love for us that while we were yet sinners CHrist died for us" ROmans
The resurrection shows God has accepted Jesus death as atonement for the sin of those who glorify God by leaning on the work of Jesus on the cross, believing for eternal life Just as Jonathan Edwards claimed God is glorified in mans dependence, the cross being a the chief way of glorifying God showing His mercies
Just as Hebrews says. Without faith it is impossible to please God and one thing necessary to please God is to believe that God is a rewarder of those who diligently serve Him... Jesus endured the cross for the joy set before HIm

If we assume that the stories surrounding christ are correct historically, he spent an unusually short time on the cross. This then raises questions about whether he actually died on the cross or not.
I don't believe the whole thing because it was a story stolen from earlier religions

Before Christ died, most every believers that died, satan and his angels would capture their souls before they could get to Heaven. Satan would hold the captive. Satan had control over death at that point in time. When Jesus died, He descended into hell and rescued the captives and took the power away from satan to where satan can not capture any more souls on his own. Then on Jesus' way to Heaven, He stoped back by earth, and showed Himself at one point to over 5000 people, before He in front of a bunch of other people assented in the clouds of glory to Heaven. He died, dead. Without a resurrection, we would still be a lost and hopeless people. Satan would still be capturing us and holding us prisoner. You need to study more.
