I,ve seen people try on countless occasions try to be upgraded on planes nearly always using some clearly, false posh voice leaving us all around cringing with embrassment, mostly they are not upgraded and then can become quite rude. When they are upgraded they act as though they,ve just found out they are related to the Queen.
And from another angle how about you guys who have paid the extra cash or your company has,to travel in a bit more style when someone comes though from ecomony class and sits next to you and is unable to get over the fact that the knife and fork is made from metal.

I think I agree with you.....and also i find that people in general are completely snotty, arrogant and obnoxious at airports.
Do they think they are special because they are flying somewhere? I'm flying too man, and I don't act this way.
Talking so loudly on cells that you can hear them at the other end of the airport, well dressed rich obnoxious people staring at everyone, giving them the up & down. Ugh. I hate airports

My husband and I travel a lot and I have never seen the behavior you are describing. We also have been upgraded numerous times sometimes because we ask but many times it has been offered to us. On long flights, first class is more comfortable with wider seats and extra leg room and yes, there is still real food, and of course, the drinks are free. Since we are usually flying across the country, this is a nice treat. You seem to be a very angry person that only looks for the negative rather than the positive. That attitude isn't going to buy you much in life. I certainly would rather not sit next to you regardless of which end of the plane it is.

If the seats are empty why shouldn't someone else travel with a bit more leg room? Instead of cringing for them - why don't you try asking - just be really polite (no need for a fake posh voice!)

A little thing like an upgrade can start someones holiday (that they've saved for all year!) on a great footing!! Good luck to them I say!

They are everywhere mate, they make working in cursomer service a real trial of endurance

Just because they are paying money they expect to have you running around for them, and the worst ones are the ones with bargain tickets!

They are growing in numbers but they cant seem to see there are OTHER people on the service too. You get a lot of people like this to deal with at one and you rapidly start loosing the will to live

I would make sure they were upgraded to the planes wings for the flight or maybe the wheels

My husband is 6'6" tall. An upgrade for him has nothing to do with style - it has to do with pain relief. In an economy seat, his knees push against the front of the seat in front of him, and that's before that person even attempts to recline. An upgrade means that he will more likely come off the flight without back pain, without bruised knees, and possibly having slept a bit. On a 5-hour flight from LA to NY, this makes a major difference. He uses frequent flier benefits to get upgrades whenever possible, but has never lied.

Obviously you have not been able to do an upgrade.

Have only been put in the situation once and that was on the Honeymoon flying out to Australia where my best man tried to ring the airline and get us upgraded. He also stuck confetti in our passports, tickets without our knowledge.

Still did not work and that is even more embarressing when the airline has to rifle through the packet and shift the confetti off the desk.

I ,like everyone else, like a bit of legroom.Airlines, particularly in europe, don,t give you this.If i can get a bit more room ,i will go for it.I agree there are a lot of people who have to be first and best.I am always last on the plane,i just take it easy, stay sat down till the queue has finished, then i go on.These same people usually put one of their number in the taxi queue, while the other waits for the luggage, but the taxi drivers are wise to this trick.THERE,S NOWT LIKE FOLK.

Airline companies rip everyone off, so if someone has the nerve to try and get away with ripping off the airline companies, good luck to them!

If you have a problem with "economy" passengers coming into your hallowed area, then clearly you look down your nose at them and that's wrong.

My aunt works for a major airline and she HATES those people. Clarification: she doesn't mind those that come and flat out ask about the possibility. She respects their straight forwardness. It's the ones that try to manipulate their way into business or first class that she resents.

For long hauls I travel Premium Economy. It only bothers me when people get upgraded and then take the piss by ordering loads of booze and getting drunk and generally been annoying. Otherwise, most seem pretty grateful.
