ok the story goes like this i am buying a surround sound 5.1 speaker for my computer does it matter what specification it has or do all 5.1 surround sound speaker have the same ability to achieve the same high volumes. and can they all be used in computer or do they have to be specifically made for computers

I agree with those who recommend Logitech. Specifically this model-

You don't need a special sound card to use these speakers; just go into "Sounds and Audio Devices" from control panel and reconfigure your 1/8 output to digital.

not all are created equal. You really need to listen to several to get a feel for how they sound.

I use a 5.1 card with optical outs going to a home theater receiver and speakers. Most would call it over kill but I had the system already and the sound is way better than any dedicated speaker set up.

I have a 5.1 surround sound system that is connected to my dvd/vcr combo, two game systems, tv and computer. To connect my computer I had to get a special Y-connector to plug in where speakers do on the rear of my computer that splits the sound into two rca connectors that will connect your rca cable to your surround sound. As far as volumes and quality, the higher the wattage the higher and better sound you'll get.

most of the time pc speakers do not make much different coz of their power comparing to home theater.for the value n quality logitech would b the pick.

Logitech or similar,are surprisingly good.They should easily
fit on a desk.
I think it has to be kept in 'proportion.'
