I was invited to a friend's beach house for jewish new year - the family will have a morning service followed by a lunch.

Do i need to dress very formal for the lunch? do i need to bring anything? what should i expect?

When I am invited to something and I'm unsure of what to wear, I just ask my host(ess). Rosh Hashana is one of the more important days of the Jewish calendar. I would think that a home service (which is what I'm getting it will be) would be a bit more casual than a temple service.

As for the rest of your questions, again, ask your host(ess). S/He will be able to explain it best to you.
