I’m studying fire and am struggling with what it is..

Not a liquid...
Not a solid...
Not a gas...
Not plasma...

I believe you are asking what state of matter is 'fire'

Fire is a combination of several things.
1) Hot air, with more CO2 and less Oxygen then typical (gas). Usually, SOME of the oxygen is burnt, and some is not.

2) bits of burnt fuel (i.e. combined with oxygen), of varying sizes down to the microscopic (probably solid)

3) bits of unburnt fuel carried away by the rising air

These are very hot, and are emitting energy, in the form of light (the visible flame) and heat.

Fire is a chemical reaction involving heat, fuel, and oxygen. What you see when you look at a fire is matter changing form by a process of rapid oxidation. The states of matter involved are not necessarily the same in every fire, but all fires, by definition, give off heat and light.
If you take all the elements of a flame into account, the fuel used will be the main determining factor in what states of matter are given off. For example, some fires will give off soot (solid) and water vapor (gas).

When some solid thing is burned ,then that thing gets heat and it increases gradually and the paritcles of the thing absorbes hot air from outside. Also, when the sparks of matchbox sticks touches the particles, they catch the sparks fastly with the flow of hot air. Thus, hot air creats flames from sparks and forms fire with the mixture of gases in the air.So, we see different colors(i.e.,blue,red,yellow).And these gases create smoke from flames.

In a word Plasma.
In a flame, the area where oxidation takes place
is hot enough to ionize some of the gases.
This zone is not the whole flame that you see.

thats the result from the reaction between fuel and Oxygen. The requirement of Fire is fuel, Oxygen, and Heat/Spark, without them the fire cannot be happened.
