Yes. However, can you have a real RELATIONSHIP over the Internet- NO. That takes actual interaction... I wonder what inspired THIS particular question, Kiwi...

I have dated someone--and loved them--after first meeting them on the internet. So my short answer to your question is, yes.
However-- you cannot have a truly complete love without being with someone in person. Just as a long-distance relationship is not complete, a relationship that is only virtual is not wholly real. Firstly, without meeting a person in real life, you cannot 100% verify their identity-- hence there is a seed of doubt and breach of trust in "cyber" feelings or relationships. Emotions are also dependent on real live interaction and physical touch/sensations that cannot be replicated online.
Let's put it this way-- your feelings for someone online are feelings inspired and invoked by words on a screen (and possibly a voice on the phone or chat), and you are fabricating a mental image for the rest of the way. You fill in the blanks of a person's real identity yourself-- how you hope and envision the person to be.
You are experiencing valid emotions, but for an incomplete, and even possibly illusory person. If you decide to really act on those feelings, make sure you do so by arranging a SAFE(!), public meeting with your online friend. Maybe then you can have a go at a true emotional relationship.

Well obviously yes, you can have real feelings.
Do you feel good when someone on-line says that your profile photo is cute? Of course you do!
What you should be asking yourself though is are THEIR feelings genuine?
As many have already stated, there are people out there who are very deceitful, some even incredibly nasty depending on your age.
Take your time with any situation, don't rush into things. Progress slowly. If these feelings are reciprocated genuinely, then best of luck.

It is quite possible. When you are interacting with someone over the internet, you are connecting more on a verbal level instead of a physical level. Of course you need to back off and be wary of people you meet online. It is so easy to meet facke people since you haven't met them in person.

There is so much deceit online, that I would not trust myself to fall in love with what someone says that they are. It is too easy to say what you think someone else wants to hear in order to win their love and trust. I prefer to get down to reality and meet someone before I make judgement on how I feel about them.
