Okay well if you don't care about the cost, I would suggest the car I drive: Audi A4. It is cute, gets good gas mileage, it is pretty fast but has good handling as well. It's an all wheel drive car, so you don't ever need to worry about taking a turn too fast. The handling is so good that my car does EVERYTHING I want it to when I want it to. At least test drive one, they're great.

You can't go wrong with a Toyota or Honda. These are the most reliable cars on the market.
Personal experience: Toyotas are all I've ever owned and I've been very satisfied with them. So far I've driven a Corolla and two Camrys.
Stay away from American cars, I've rented them when I've had to and have been very disappointed. Oh and go for a car that's reliable, safe, functional, practical, and classic rather than having a cute car that will probably break down in a couple of years. Thank goodness I knew that as a teenager when I started driving.

Michele B is right... AWDs are great, there are alot of cars that are AWD, AUDI A4 A6 A8, Subaru (all Subaru), Volvo X70, Syline R34, VW Phaeton.
Some people are right chick in jeep are cool, but keep in mind jeeps have big torques, if you are not carefull entering a curve you'll spin, unless you always engage the 4WD.
