how can you accept the idea that "god" created the world, the universe and all thing in it when the scriptures that tell this tale are only a couple thousand years old? or that there are so many other religions in the world when this god only want you to worship himself? also, if god did create everything and is also said to love all children, then why would he create a hell? or the devil? would this mean that god does not love all? or that even a god can make a mistake?

ok, just so you know. i'm not just pullin your ball hairs to get some fun, i really want to know this stuff. but i mean really, god made everyone right? they why do we all look different? why are there different languages? does they bible speek of the other civilizations around the world? like the chineese?or the aztecs? is it coincidence that the names of things like planets are those of Roman Gods? again i'm not simply trying to pull your nut hairs here, i do want to know more about this, just not from some religious zealots,
i will admit that it is slightly amusing to read some peoples responses and how some simple questions deemed out of order are attacked, or simply met with an atomoton like response of, "just because"
and as for 13 going on 14: **** YOU AND GROW UP!!!!

ok, so far i've seen a lot of people say God didn't create the devil. He created lucifer who turned against him. so wouldn't that mean it is gods fault he was turned on. if he had not "given free will" then there would be no problem.
To Anna, I don't really think you should say "you guys" hate muslims. While there are many people who do, i wouldn't really care if you worshiped a spoon, but i would like to know the reasons behind that worship. i guess the reason i'm focusing on christianity is because it is filled with the most false hope. for example, i have yet to see a commercial for a miracle jewish life saver, or a budist cancer cure. it is only in christianity that i have found this kind of exploitation of ignorance and blind faith.
As for Newbie's statement and the tower of bable, if that is in fact what happened then that means god feared man, fear is weakness. and it would also show that he did not intend for that to happen. hence a mistake.

how can we accept the idea well the awnser to that is as simple as the awnser to why we believe in god it's just faith, and although god loves everyone he did create us for companionship. He created lucifer with free will and lucifer rejected his love and thus became the devil it's not so much he created the devil lucifer did, then he and his fallowers metaphorically spat on god's love and because they rejected him in such away they are the reason god created hell. There was no hell before morning star and had lucifer and his fallowers not betrayed god there would still be no hell. God is an emotional being, he gets angry often that's true but he is the ONLY god and the creator of EVERYTHING so technically he can't make a mistake, there's no like standard of what's good and evil what's right and wrong, HE sets all the standards and thus abides by them so anything he does could not be considered a mistake.

Tradition says that the Earth is only a couple thousand years old (It really doesn't say that, but I am just going along for sake of continuing, it's actually more than a couple) , It can be any amount of years old. I lean towards the Gap Theory of Genesis 1:1 - 1:2. You can Google that and find out why so many Christians are against it. But I tell you, I can translate those verses too, with a simple and common Strong's Concordance and come up with another way to translate Genesis 1:2.
According to the theory, the Earth went through at least one cataclysm, and the Genesis story picks up when the Earth "became a waste and a desolation" . Not "was formless and empty" , as tradition would have it.
So don't believe the traditional way. I don't. But I do believe that proprly translated, it tells us what happened.

Once upon a time I was an atheist...then I was bitten by the Universe phenomenon..how did it all come about...there has to be someone constructing every bit & piece of the Universe with His invisible hands...
To cut a long story short I still don't follow any religion--in practise or theory-- though I am a born Muslim..
The Bottom line is the people can't imagine GOD ( the name is for the concept only- not indicating the Supreme from any religion ) without following any religion.
Having said that there has to be someone choreographing everything invisibly and just to understand that different people have given different names for there different Gods/Goddesses.
Of course, every religion does have its Acheel's Heel...Thats the reason that I don't follow any religion but "believe' in the concept of The Supreme...

well im no relegious ed. student but this i can gather.
the Earth was already there.
hence Gen 1:1 in the bgining God created the heaven and the Earth and the Earth was blank anf formless. yadda yadda yadda let there be a firmament this meands that the whole earth was covered in water.
so i guess the ice from the ice age could have melted and covered the whol earth.
as for the dinasaurs hmm
well God did banish satan to Earth so maybe satan created animals too
for the different languages, the tower of babel, where everyone spoke 1 language so they git together and started to build a tower to reach God, god saw how powerful people could be being so united that he made them speak other language.

Dear friend, there is not a quicky answer we can give you here that will entirely cover all your questions. What you are asking - the depth of it - cannot be explained in a paragraph or two. (It sounds as if you are referring to the Holy Bible teachings, hence my Christian voice)
The Bible requires reading and study. A great Bible and study guide for Non-believer's and New Believer's is "The New Believer's Bible" found at the website below. They will send it to you free if needed - just contact them. People exploring different faiths can use it as a study guide on Christianity.
The best way for you to decide for yourself - and not take anyone else's word for it (pro or con) is to study it.
I hope you take the time to get to know more so you can make a decision. I hope you do and let me know afterwords what you learn.
Oh and I've included two links to Pastor Chuck Smith's on-line books - enjoy!
P.S. The Qur'an is not a Christian Bible. Yes, it talks about a god and many parts are misquoted from the Bible, but it refers to a different god.
EDIT: Dear Pam, you said "that's why in the Bible, it says "no one comes to the Father except me" it means, no one can explain better to the Father except the Son himself."
The scripture says: "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." John 14:6 It means that no one can come to God except that they believe in Jesus, the Christ, son of God.

Religion is a very controversial topic, it expounds to such depth that it can be so inconceivable ... why? because we cant explain everything that is happening here in our world or in earth. In the Roman Catholic religion.. God created the world and human in his own image and likeness...He gave us his son Jesus and became human so Jesus would know how humans feels, talk and think and to understand how we are.. that's why in the Bible, it says "no one comes to the Father except me" it means, no one can explain better to the Father except the Son himself. God gave us the "power" to choose from good and evil. It is upon us which road we choose to take. Wether we admit it or not.. truly there is only one God.. and that is God the Father.. Some "religious" sectors creates other religions, maybe because they have their won beliefs that they wish to be heared, or they challenges the R. Catholic beliesf.. Scriptures and stories where made when Jesus came here on earth and it was written by his disciples and it was found and given age by those people who found them. No one really knows how old they are.. they can be older for all we know. All we can do is presume that the scriptures are this or that old..God loves all.. all he wants is for us to repent and ask forgiveness for all the wrong doings we have done, and try our best not to do it again..Again, we have a choice, it's just that we tend to give in to our choices rather than do what He wants... but again... it's all up to us how we want to live our lives.. and He has given us that.. Whatever we take, he supports and loves..he is forgiving as long as we ask for it and repents for it..
All I believe is, yes, there is only one God.. and that is the one who created us and gives answers to our prayers, make us strong when we are about to give up.. and whatever religion one has,and to whatever image he maybe sculpted we are all praising just one God, we just gave a different name, a different language ... but it's still HIM.. and I know and believe he understands..Because he is a Great and Loving God.

Are you asking this seriously? Or is this something to get Christians rattled up some?
As the bible doesn't state a age for the earth. As for the other questions, God didn't create hell with the intention of people going there, that is a direct result of sin. And to say God isn't love would mean you haven't read the Bible, as it plainly states God is love. And God doesn't make mistakes, as He is righteous.

God doesn't make mistakes. Lucifer was once God's Angel. He tried to take from God. God gave him a choice. He didn't make the right one and he was cast down. Lucifer made Hell. God didn't.
You might want to read the Bible. And discuss this more with a minister. You sound very lost, and I feel sorry for you. God gives us 'free will'. Free will to choose HIM, or satan and hopefully you will make the right choice. Educate yourself more with the Bible, and discuss with a minister so that you can better understand what is around you. People created the different religions. God didn't.

ok 1st of all its ok to ask these questions but let me tell something but dont take it personelly or in a bad way.... im a muslim a proud muslim. i follow islam. there is no god but god(allah)(swt) and muhammad (s)is his messenger. in our religion we cant say that god makes mistakes because god can never make a mistake. he did not create the devil. god said the good people who want to go to heaven will follow god and his prophets and the people who dont pray five times a day read the quran and treat others the way they want to be treated they wouldnt be considered a muslim and they would be following the devil..... look evrybody i know you guys hate muslims but we are exactly like every body else we go to school we wear what you guys wear we might eat different things because muslims dont eat pig or any types of pork and beef we eat meat that is slottered in the name of allah swt every body thinks that we are crazy and that we are weird but not really we are just likke you and god loves us all.like my dad has an office and he has a women working there who is a true christian and she wants to convert in to islam evry single day she comes and asks my dad questions. i mean think about it.... everybody wgo reads this plz try this...go in to your room alone take a shower cover your body(girls) and talk to god like say " oh god what is the right path im lost guide me" and then say "la ila ha illa la muhammad do rasullala" and you will know the right path..
PS: all you muslims and ppl who are interested in islam add me as a friend and later i will give you my email.....

I think God/Mother Nature/Whatever You Want to Call Him/Her created everything and He/She/It is still doing it, every time a woman gets pregnant, a sun sets or a flower blooms...
I do not care about some 2000 years old scriptures that tell the tale or some idea of Hell...just the human idea of fairy tales and a boogy man.
Spirituality is good, organised religion is bad because for every good, you have to have a bad...
The Supreme Being is not in some book or some churches...it's in yourself.
May the Force be with you...
